I’ve had this thing for years and used it too much.
Im always reminded everytime I do, what it must feel like for that poor monkey and his football.
I am using it today on sb rotating retainers and its a hoot!
I am going to devise a bar lever rocker shaft style of my own. I’ve had it!
Just for fun…Any plans/ideas of a home made dealie out there?

Make our own tools?

Nah, we don't do that here

Hahahahaha AMAZING!!!
Thankyou for that.
Thats what I bin talkin about!
No problem
It's been a while since ive been through that thread, but there is probably a half a dozen different spring compressors in there

Make that seven then.
That dumbell I had in highschool came in use again…you know the one with the knurled handle and the crappy red plastic locks around the weights that always came loose?

Line up a rocker where you want it to be welded and mark. I used a paint marker. Angle grind a slot for the rocker arm to sit in off to the right or left if preferred.

Grind a v notch outta the end of the arm after a mock up on the head with a valve in for alignment ish.DC265EAC-6C0B-4236-99BB-F603FF730408.jpeg

Weld the piss out of them but do a better job than me with flux core, renamed “splattercore” when I weld.
Whats the old joke? “I’m a welder from way back…when I weld you gotta stand way back”.

Nasty

Slide it on a rocker shaft and install the shaft with two factory bolts minus one “washer” for clearance on the end/right. I put a rag in the combustion chamber to keep the valve in its place.
Do your thing.

Slide it over and on to the next spring.

The only problem I ran into (other than the shooty fluxcore, the other F word) was that I did’nt make this when I was a teenager.
Cant believe how well it works and how easy it was to make in about an hour all in.
Just have to be careful because of the leverage not to bind the spring. So strong.
Thanks FABO again for the ideas and inspiration.
Never again ever will I use the donkey tool!

Me too. Had both lever style and pneumatic, neither strong enough for roller springs. Giant old c-clamp with a ring welded on the size of most retainers. Done.
I've also got a gutted stock steel rocker with a bar welded to it for changing springs on the motor. Rocker area that pushes on the valve removed, rocker now pushes on the retainer.
Thanks 33 for the motivation to make a way better spring compressor!

I used this one a few times. One thing nice is you adjust it once and then flip the lever.

Time to make a better one...even with nut welded on theres still a fair amount of wrestling lol.
What size C clamp did you use?

OUCH! It's almost like they want you to hurt yourself using it. These knobs don't feel good in your hand, that's for sure. Mine is at the shop, but if I had to guess I'd say it's a 10" (25cm) clamp. The main drawback IMO is that you can't use it with the heads installed like the ones toolmanmike and others have posted.

Thanks, the one I have now is easier with socket welded on but it is still a pain. I'll make a new one as well for "heads installed" scenario.
Thanks.
