Ok guys, I am green to the world of camshafts, but even greener to valve springs in particular. know how to select a cam and have one selected for my application even if it is a cheater cam for my class. Tech officials are dumb and lazy at the local track, so i think i can fly under the chevy boys radar in a .410 lift class with .547 and a good set of mufflers, which are required anyway. The RPM range on the cam is 3000-6500 and i need valve springs to keep everything in check that high. I prefer to order from summit or speedway motors but open to sugghestions.

I think you're probably putting a lot of faith in someone being lazy or stupid. I've found as long as you're not winning that theory works. After you win, that starts to change... But that's up to you. As was mentioned - pick the camshaft, then use the springs that the manufacturer says too. If you don't "know" - that's the way to do it.

What kind of racing is this? You can have a custom cam grind that has long duration altered centerline and lobe separation and stay within class rules. I would understand running a slightly larger cam and thinking you can sneak it through but you are talking about a cam so big different valve train parts will be needed . Seems it would be easy to spot by an official.

if you are running a stock oil pan without the block oiling mods keep the rpm at 5200 or say good by to the motor after about 4 races /you should weld a accel.baffel inside the oil pan to keep the oil arould the pick up/ now pick a cam to run in the 1000 to 5000 range.and stock 340 valve springs will do ,the 318 has lighter valves and I have turned them over 7000rpm with stock 340 springs I would recomend the 360 2 barrel cam 420 lift will work for your car /
