Valve spring question

Is there a difference between a solid spring and a roller spring. I have a 640 lift roller cam, and a pair of solid springs good to 700 lift. Could i use them?

you should use the spring recommended by the manufacture of the roller cam.....solid roller cams require alot more spring pressure on the seat and over the nose then a flat tappet cam...

have a head man compare the specs at closed -midlift-and open pressure against what springs are recommended, they just might work, if set up by an expert. he`ll check for coil bind too, along w/ guide clearance.
