I am trying to post a video for the first time. I hope it works.
People often ask for cam advice for a small block. This is my 340 idling. It has headers, Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers, Comp XE 268 hydraulic flat tapper cam, Eddy Air Gap and an Eddy thunder Series 650 Carb. It runs great and sounds good. I hope this helps anyone choosing a cam.

Sounds angry. And for those with 318's, multiply that by 20% or more. LOL

It worked and it sounds GREAT. Vixen says she can get lumpy, too. lol

What RPM are these idling at?

It's really a pretty mild cam.... Just sounds choppy....
If you just look at the numbers, it is a fairly mild cam. The main advantage of the XE cams is (quoting Comp here) that the lobes are designed to be a little steeper (kind of like a roller lifter cam). They said it opens the valves faster. Regardless, it sounds good, and it runs great. It is a great street cam.

Yup, I've got two of them... One in a 340 & one in a 383....

Perfection!!!

Did you degree your or line it up and send it?
I degreed both of them, But both wound up on the 0 keyway so while I recommend degreeing to be sure, they are better than some manufacturers at getting it right....

But if you roll the dice your trusting the cam, both gears & the crank...

Nice thank you

318 with Comp XE268. Headers, 2.5” pipes, Flowmaster Super44s.

That looks like my old 72 340 4spd Duster project! Granted it was 1993 when I sold it. Was in Hamburg Pennsylvania.

Any chance you still know what the VIN was? It’s probably not the same car but it’s possible. My car was a factory 340/auto. Y8 gold. At some point someone hacked a sunroof into it.
I don't unfortunately. Mine was more of a root beer color and 4spd.

I got excited there for a minute because I’ve been trying to track down the previous owners of my car for 20 years with no luck. I bought it from a guy I went to high school with and he bought it from a guy about 20 miles away after seeing it advertised in the paper (the good old days). That’s where the trail goes cold.

Hope my kid brings that sound in, as I'm leaving this blue ball

I stop for gas one morning with my big cam Chevelle years ago idling, puffing steam on a cool morning. A guy was coming out of the station and said, " love the sound and smell of a big cam, early in the morning." .put a big smile on my face.....Guess he saw the movie  ...... Sounded like this beauty, very healthy. :)

Bummer. It would have been really cool it it happened to be the same.

I tried like hell to like that XE268 cam, and it was pretty cool the first time I drove it, but it just didn't run that good.

And it never sounded as good as OP's, even when it had all 16 lobes.
