Bigger carbs are better? I'm going with "There's no carburetor like no carburetor!" 
Well, at least for my build, which is a turbo slant six street car. If they ever start an EFI forum, I'm writing a long post on good and bad reasons to install fuel injection. It's not for everyone.

I'm getting started on it now. I'll split it into a couple different posts.

Just based off of venturi to blades, the 1050 dominator is the best carb in the world, as it is already annular booster, with that relatively small venturi vs 2 inch blades....they pull hard .

Tuner has been saying that for decades.
Most of these engines should have a Dominator on them. Most of them need two of them.

I have been wondering what size carb i will need on my 3.55 crank W-2 headed 340, i was thinking 950, maybe it will need more.

I don't disagree. I usually run bigger carbs than "recommended" and I like down leg boosters. It's usually how I've always run...

I agree. W2 heads on most anything will suck down a 1050 like gal that can suck a golf ball through a garden hose.
We went with a 950 on my 414 but it's a street engine.

Nope. You did good. If your 850 is an 850 with 1.5xx Venturi and 1.750 throttle blades you have an 850.
I forget the dimensions of the 950 but the Venturi is smaller on those.

yeah, it's 1.75 blades.. got it from Allstate carb, nice people...
