Don't forget that the U-bolts are different from the 7 1/4.

thats what i did too. just made the holes a little oblong.

does anybody recommend not doing this for any reason though?

I have been helping a friend chase a vibration in rear end forever. It was courtesy of the ground out plates.
He had a local welder open the "oblong" to a larger side, and weld in a sleeve that matches the diameter of the u bolts.

I do not recommend the "waller out the holes method".

i realize that the ubolts are bigger also. I have the new ubolts as well. thanks for the info that its not a good idea to do that though.

best place to get the plates? does anyone know?

To my knowledge, stock OE stuff. Through here or ebay. Perhaps someone here will know if B or E body stuff will work too?
