BULLSHIT that dog aint a killer!!! if that goat was in pieces that DOG is a KILLER and needs to be put down before it harms a child......once a dog has tasted blood....I don't care who has been around animals or not if a dog KILLS something it is a killer plain & simple and "PLAYING" does not involve tearing something apart with its teeth...THAT AINT PLAYING!!!!
Huntiung dogs that bite the bird are called "egg suckers" and get put down on a regular basis. IF that do killed another animal it is a killer PERIOD, it certainly aint no goat baby sitter!!!

If thats true every dog that we hunt needs to be killed.Yet those same dogs are house dogs / pets that live with families. Yes there are dogs that need to be put down because they have bitten or malled a human for no reason. Yet we as humans think dogs should be put down if they kill anouther animal LETS SAY A NASTY RAT. If this guy posted a picture of his dog with a rat that was tore up that was in his house . THE DOG WOULD BE A HERO!!!
A lion is a great pet too just a kitty cat that was never trained. BTW Never heard of a dog being put down for being to hard mouth on birds. They are trained one on one until they stop. Most of the time the dog is too excided and wants to please the owner and has to be trained to calm down.

This is a very tough situation to go through and I have been there before. I had a reserved world grand champion pony who had a baby years ago. I also had a one year old white german shepherd. The dog was great with kids and was well behaved. One night we came home and the baby pony was dead and there was evidence that the dog had killed it. We never found out why and couldn't understand why it would do such a thing. It never acted agressive or anything. My son who was about three at the time and played with it all the time. No agression whatsoever. It never chased the horses or even bothered them. But for some reason that night it turned agressive and killed the baby. Unfortunately we made the decision to put the dog down. We were afraid it would hurt my son or someone else. It is hard to have to put something down that you love.

Slippery, here is an example of someone who felt the risk to their family were unacceptable, and made a hard but necessary decision for their family's safety. Just like you make decisions for your family. They have the right to do that just as you do.

Well said. No matter what decision you make not everyone is going to agree with you. Just like goldfish stated you have to make the decision based on what you think is right and best for you/family.

I hope you never get anouther dog. You killed a dog / puppy 1 YEAR OLD thats 7 human years. You most likely never taught the dog anything other than to be a pet and eat. Did you ever take the dog out and spend time with the dog and horses together? Most likely you were to busy playing with the horses and ignoring the dog.You can see problems way before they happen if you watch the animals interreact to each other. You like most people only should own one type of a animal at a time.

You do realize that 1 dog year = 7 human years thing is a myth right?

By a year old a dog is classified as full grown in height although maybe not in weight and is fully capable of reproducing.

WHATEVER!!! Like I said everyone has to do what they think is best. What if I would have kept the dog and it hurt or killed my son. Everyone has a right to their opinion. You don't know me and the situation. We loved that dog and it was with us all the time with the horses. I have owned many dogs throughout the years and have never experienced anything like that. It was a sad situation and unless you have been in this situation you have no right to say the things you just said to me.

If a dog chased my horses let alone killed one it would be gone in no time. Wether it be my dog or some one elses. That stuff just don't fly. Not that I have to. You find dogs have a change of hart when they see a half ton of horse coming to run them down.

I have a feeling it's an argument between a city dog person and a country dog person.

Same sort of an argument between a dog owner that believes dogs should be tied up 24/7 compared to those that believe in dogs running free on their land.

My apologies to the person who started this thread. It seemed I have caused some people to get nasty. I am done with posting on this thread. It is a shame people think it is necessary to belittle others when they never said anything to them about their opinions. I am sure you will make the right decision because it will be yours and what you think is best.

The first year of a dogs life is the best time to train and get the dog/ puppy acustoume to its surroundings and other animals. Take a dog that is 5 years old that has never seen a lets say horse or goat . I know with out a dought that it would not be wise to leave them together.
I have dogs period. I don't have time nor wish to have any other animals,. I can say without a dought if I were to bring a cat home the cat would be fine while I was there. As soon as I leave the cat would be dead. What is the answer? Put the cat in a cage or the dog on a chain while your not there. People think that fluffy the cat and Max the dog are buddies just because they are not killing each other while your there. The fact is you are there and you are the pack leader and those animals know that. You leave all bets are out the window.BYE BYE FLUFFY.

I don't care if people disagree with me because everyone has a right to their own opinion. It is how you say things is where I have the issue with. The reason I apologized is because I didn't want the thread to become a fighting match and where people think they can be disrespectful to others. It is all about respecting one another on here.

This thread is turning into a pissing contest and I think that everyone that needs to (and a few that don't) have had there say therefore.
