I had the crank, pistons, cam, timing cover, and water pump together then had to put it on the back burner for a little over a year. The cam was properly coated with assy. grease all over. Added a little more after it was installed. Got back to it yesterday. The lobes almost look like they are rusted. The bushing bosses look great. All the lobes are uniformally covered. It sort of looks like lots and lots of very small irregular circles (smaller than a pin head) and lots of tiny viens. All still had oil and or grease on them. All look the same. I've got a Comp hyd. flat tappet cam. I don't remember if the lobes looked that way when new.
Any ideas? Pictures wouldn't show the detail, too small.
Thanks,
Mike

Does it look like this? If it does, it's called Parkerization and it's normal.

Yes, that is how they are supposed to look (assuming they look like RRR's pic).
