like the title said I went racing this week end
pretty happy with result but hoping a high 10. time slip
but didnt came

best run was at 11.18 et to 119.85 mph
with about 600 rpm left in the engine
was only going true the trap at 6400 rpm

the car is a 1971 duster at 3250 pounds
full exhaust
28x9 hoosier slick
4.10 gear
410 cu in. with w2 heads fully ported
harland sharp roller rockers 1.6 ratio
crane solid roller .630 lift 272*int 282*exh
10.27 cr.
m1 intake
1000 cfm carb
frank lupo converter 4200 rpm stall

I know I need more gears than that but what do you think
I used to have a 4.56 gears but I destroy it last fall

the best I ran with it was 10.79 with that 4.56 gears

Happy day indeed up there, congratulations on a fast pass and enjoying your Duster .

hope to go again the 22 of september
on close track 1/8 mile still drag racing so:cheers:

Nice running Duster. I am in the same dilemma. First of all we only run 1/8 mile down here in the south. My smallblock made peak hp at 7300 on the dyno. I had 5.14's in it last year and I broke them the last race, I was shifting at 6800 and crossing the finish line at 6800 seems to me they were not low enough. I have read and heard before you should shift and cross the line above you peak hp. I had some 350 gears I put in so I could race and I only lost a half of a tenth, gained 1 mph and crossed the line in 2nd gear.I am going to buy some new gears and I do not know what to buy. With the 5.14's I ran a 6.34@108 and a 6.39 @109 in 2nd with the 3.50's.

from last fall the money isnt there so...

but this winther I wanna buy
new gears
brake line
upper control arm

wish me luck or cash either will be good

I will suggest keeping the 4.10's and this winter along with the other things you have on the list advance the cam 4-6 degrees. the motor will act like it has more compression and produce more torque which should put your hotrod into the 10's very easy. also if you are not using mufflers install a 18" collector extension, this will also help with adding torque.

It runs well, but it does seem to be under performing a bit. Are those cam specs at 0.05° duration? Do you have the incrementals off the time slip (60', 330', 1/8 mile, etc)? That would help figure out where you are loosing ET....but my guess (just going from what I see) is you have too much cam for the compression.

If you uncork the exhaust that might wake it up considerably....the rest of the build to me looks like it should be a 10.6-10.4 combo @ 125+ mph.

those cam spec are .050

show all the incrementals on your timeslip. what trans? Our iron head 360 had dipped into the 10's on a couple occasions. We were running a 904 with a 9" 5000 stall converter off the t-brake on a 4.56. Ours had a terrible 60 too, or we could have dropped possibly into the 10.8 range.

Yeah, that is WAY bigger than my cam....for what its worth, 410 has a small solid roller 248/254 duration with about .100 less lift than your cam (Yours is .672, mine is about .576), a small 750 carb, ported eddys, 10.8:1 compression, and runs low 6.8's in the 1/8th (high 10.7's in the 1/4)....also 3250 lbs, with exhaust.

Granted, my cam is a little too small (I'm looking for bigger), but if I were you I would be looking for something in the 260° duration range....that's what I'm going with when I find a little extra money. Just my opinion.
:hello2:

at the beginning it was suppose to have indy heads
and alot more compression
but cash came short

instead of building a race engine I built some kind
of hybride to be able to run it on the street and on the track

and for the time slip I cannot found any the kids played with them
and throw them away I can remember it was 11.18 at 119.85 mph
and the 60 foot was 1.57:oops::wack:
I know my cam is way to big but hade it when I built the engine and like said was suppose to be a way more stronger engine than this one

I suppose I should call a cam company and have one ground for me
what do you think???

sorry if I make mistake or if Im little bit tuff to understand but Im french and I dont use a transletter so...

Bob

dont think I can do it the exhaust valve
was pretty close to the piston if I remember right
0.080

so if advance it more may be they will it
or I will need to work on the piston
