I thought I would post it for the Members that hang here during the day and never see the work getting done. These will be gone before morning

My son was working on some 6.0 Diesel heads. He cut grooves for o-rings and then resurfaced them. Its pretty cool he just puts it to the numbers he has memorized already and away it goes.

The guy just had them done at another shop. They lasted a week. So he brought them to my son. He does not advertise. Word travels fast where he is at since he left the other machine shop.

He does this on the side at night for cash to buy more equipment. Sunday we are going to Mario Andretti's old shop. He bought a chassis fixture from there. He wants to buy his old engine Dyno and a fork lift.

Is that part of "bullet proofing" those 6.0's?

Got a friend who owned several of those 6.0 Ford's...never had an ounce of trouble but he never ran a chip or hauled 30,000 lbs. with them either.

What did the other shop screw up? The depth?
The motor lasted 15 miles. They didn't cut the o-rings at all my son does that upon request. The clean up cut on the heads before o-ringing showed there was to much lead in the head . They were dished. The motor threw rods so there must have been other issues.

Steve did a leak down test. And then a vacuum test, on the ports the valves to make sure they were sealed then he visually checks the valves and seats visually. My son has a very good reputation so he gets a lot of work through the racing and truck and tractor pull community. He just had a motor win a championship at Island Dragway. It was consistent for the season. And still good for next year. He does this work as a hobby not a business and it is very hard to get in the door. Unless you know him well or I bring someone in there is a long list. There is a Toyota Supra straight six on the stand right now. 1000 to the wheels. He is converting the heads to shim-less buckets. What he does on street bike engines. I was listening to him talking to someone on the phone about the buckets.

He is also still doing 2 stroke motors . he specialized in them when he was racing with them using Methanol and Nitro Methane. Anything goes unless they catch you. We saw him finish 2 laps ahead of the field in the past. He always built his own engines. Those were the good old days that I miss. Man were they fun times for me. Proud wasn't the word
