Westside German Shepherd Rescue!

-
If my Wife had her way I'd have Rots... Irish Wolfhounds....Shepards....Labs....and anything slightly smaller than a Buick roaming about. Possibly several of each. She LOVES the huge old hounds.... but would settle for a big Shepard.

To her our Mutt is a small dog at 43 lbs. Shitzu's & Toy's? They don't even register on her personal definition of a Dog. (My appoligies to small dog owners/lovers)

Well, my $.02 for the thread.

Our 6 yr old asked the easter bunny for a dog. After alot of research and shopping, we decided on an Akita.

Mind you, I've been around dogs my whole life. I was handling show huskies at 6 myself. The kid is kinda rowdy so we knew he needed a big dog. The Akita fit the bill for kid friendly guardian.

Anyhow, the boy is at school and goes on www.petfinder.com, finds our local shelter online and finds a black lab mix named Zane.

He gets home, goes online and shows his mom. "Mommy, isn't he so cute? How sad is it that if noone adopts him, they're going to put him to sleep and he'll go to heaven?" (Mind you he's 6.) "Mommy can we please go get him so they don't send him to heaven?"

Needless to say we now have a black lab mix named Zane. Here's a few pics of him, and his favroite riding position in the Hemi Ram.

That's a beautiful lab. He's lucky that you're raising such a compassionate and fine young man. Good job to all!!!

You still gonna let him ride like that when he gets to be 100 lbs...??? 8)

LOL I htink at 100lbs, he may have graduated to the back seat. If he's not on my shoulders, he's perched on the center console keeping a lookout for me!

Congrads Daywalker69!
He looks very happy with his new master.
It sure feels good to know he will have a good life with you and your son and family. Zane is a good looker and your son is lucky to have a Dad doing a great job. Congrads Billy

Zane looks like he's going to be a great co-pilot! Good looking mix too, your son has good taste. Do you all know what he's mixed with?

That seems to be our problem, too. Absolutely love my two GSD's. Even have a soft spot for the extra one that lays around on the floor, all over the floor. Everywhere.

Sure glad we have wood floors, only one room with carpet. Thought about getting one of those "Roomba" vacuum cleaners, but figured it would choke to death in a couple days.

Good on ya, Ramcharger. A friend of mine works/donates time for a local Rottie rescue. She has a real nice GSD/Rottie cross up for adoption right now. I just can't justify three dogs. Even though the wife would love it.

Thanks comaxian! Our new house has wood floors for that exact reason. I hope your friend finds a new home for the mix soon.

Is it just the pic, or is that dogs head twice the size of his body?lol
It really is a scary picture of that GSD. Here's some better pics and her description:

"Ginger von Meier is a stunning, well bred 12 month old red/black German Shepherd. She is one of the most beautiful dogs we have seen with the coloring and conformation of a dog from excellent lines. Her gait and stance are amazing. She is alert to her surroundings, confident, extremely intelligent, and strong willed. Ginger would do best with an experienced German Shepherd owner, one who can appreciate her tremendous talents and abilities, perhaps someone who might want to do Schutzhund work with her. She is not fond of female dogs. Ginger is also an affectionate sweetheart with a soft, loving side. She loves to climb onto your lap and smother you with kisses. She looks into your eyes with complete adoration and wants so much to please you. She’ll roll on her back and beg you for tummy rubs. Ginger is truly amazing. We recommend that she goes to a home with older (teenage +) kids."

We got both our current dogs from shelters. The Great Pyrneese mix is a 110lb lap dog, and the ACD (Australian Cattle Dog) is going to be my new fishing buddy...I hope! After they got into a whole tub of cooking lard we are calling them the Crisco Kids...or Lard ***!

Man, I'll bet that was mess!

lol, yes, much less "psycho mutant" looking!

Enough with the pictures. It's real hard not to try and adopt her. She'd make a great companion for my two boys.

But she's probably fixed. Sure would be nice to have a few puppies at the old homestead.

She sure is cute.

LOL...there was NOTHING left...just a torn up container!! They even licked each others faces pretty clean.

I do not think I would ever pay a breeder for a dog...there are so many great dogs in the shelter and rescues!

Now look at this girl! She's pure GSD but her ears never stood up. Imagine seeing this every morning, I'd be LMAO on the way to the shower! What great looking dog. I mean, who wouldn't want a dog that looks like an airplane?

Ramcharger!! you sure got my hart pumping over the great dogs you have in your life.

Airplane Lovinglly LMAO.

Here my best friend, "Buddy" hes 9 months old and 45lbs. He will be around 80 to 95lbs full grown. People tend to think Bassets are small dogs but they are more like big dogs with small legs.

You're right Adam, Bassets are really powerfull dogs. My sister had one and it knocked down the Christmas tree when it wagged it's tail, lol!

Mike, I thought you'd like Ms. Airplane!

WOW...more good looking dogs Ram! One of those sites is where we got the ACD...here face and story just grabbed me!

Here's Ms. Airplane's story:

"Liesel von Leichtenstein is an adorable 12 month old German Shepherd. She is as sweet as she looks with the most precious face. Liesel doesn’t know yet that her quest for a home will be harder than most just because her ears don’t stand up. We looked into that face and those big sweet eyes and we couldn’t leave her behind at the shelter when her time was up. Liesel is a pure shepherd but sometimes the ears just don’t stand up. It is a fault if a dog is being shown but, other than that, there is nothing wrong with floppy ears. We happen to think they look adorable and those floppy eared dogs look a little more approachable and sweet. They make great therapy dogs because people want to hug them and kiss them, they look like a child’s favorite stuffed animal. No cats please."

Both of my boys have one lazy ear. Both on the left. I don't know if our younger one just thought it was normal that his big brother had one, so he did the same, or if we just got "lucky".

There are definitely a lot of fine looking dogs on that site. I guess it's a good thing that I don't live in California.

DUDE. I am SOOOO F`ed if my Wife sees Gingers bio and her pictures. Ginger is EXACTLY what we'd love to find in a Shepard. In the future... NOT now. But if see she's this, I'm talking me sitting at JFK airport waiting for a hound-in-a-box to be delivered.......

STOP IT !!!! 8)

But she IS gorgeous!
