hey i was just wondering what front brake setup is lighter: 73-76 disc brakes or a '68 9 inch drum. My bets are on the 9 inch drum but i was wondering if all you knowledgeable FABO members could give me a for-sure answer.

Early disc are heavier and drag more on the rotor.
73 is lighter, [still drag], than early but I bet they are close to the drum
So I'll say 9'drums lighter, less drag. I have not put them on a scale but have changed plenty of both to kinda tell the difference, But then again..JMO

Its my understanding that the drag racers prefer the early Kelsey-Hayes A-body disc brakes as they are lighter weight and better stop than other factory assemblies.
Not what I know just what I've read.

4 piston kelsey hayes calipers weigh more than single piston 73' up.
They are 2 piece, and have 4 steel pistons in them, just to start.

I know a guy who just wouldn't give up their old 9" drum brakes for any reason. I guess he's had a heart rate raising experience and changed to aftermarket discs at all corners. According to him the new style aluminum calipers and liteweight discs are faster than his old drum setup, meaning they must be lighter, because he didn't change anything else. Safety's a good thing in any case, but safer and faster at the same time is the best combo yet!
