What is this box for

Have 74 Dart theres this box with two wire plugs going into it,see nothing on wiring diagram. Putting Auto Meter dash in do I need this box there is a big one and and small one

1974 Dart? That may be the infamous seatbelt interlock controller. I don't know too much about them except they were only used that year.

My 73 duster has it, i left it alone. I had enough wiring problems

in the engine compartment, do you have a metal box with a large red button on the drivers side fender?
get a factory service manual so you can see how things are wired. I'm thinking there was a good thread on how to bypass it and cut in the clear.
when I got my 74', the previous owner had jumpered the wires under the seat to bypass the seat belt connected sensor. someday i'll re-wire the car and it will all be gone
