I have a 67 valiant and added ss springs and I previously installed KYB shocks and was wondering if the std length abody shock will bottom out with the ss springs. What are you guys using on a budget?

Back in the day, many moon's ago, we ran 60's Imperial shocks for the extra length. Times have surely changed....lol. I'm curious to see the newer good stuff also?

About the same year Chrysler Imperial.

Rick we musta been typin at the same time. lol

my buddy here is using shocks from a w-series truck, works ok. I just bought a set of comp engineering drag shocks with 002/003 springs...we´ll see if there´s any difference at the track :glasses7:

The kyb shocks I have are pretty stiff and I forgot to check the travel length after I put the SS springs in but when I installed them the lower shock only went up about an inch or so when I went to slide it on the bolt. My car is a daily driver so I will encounter whatever roads I drive on,this is Chicago so it's a crap shoot.

Rancho has a chart on their website listing all their shocks by the ends, length and travel. If you download this chart you can figure out which shock will work for your application and buy it locally. That way you also get an adjustable shock that will work on the street and the track.

i got rancho 8 way adjustable shocks from a ford bronco if i remember correctly. I have not installed them yet but they were within the specs i needed on my dart with the 002/003 springs.

I could do some digging to get the part number if needed

Have 002/003 springs on mine. Those late 60's Imperial shocks made it hook right now. Basic gas 50/50 shock with the right length, will handle street/strip work.

same here, before it would hop when you hit it.and i am not talking about wheel hop.

I had kyb on a 68 valiant with ss springs that was a daily driver and it did fine. Ended up switching to bilstien so I didn't get beat up so bad

All of this has made me curious, so I did some research. The A and B bodies take the same number rear shock. The Imperial does take a different number, but is nowhere near as long as we've thought. Here are the specs:

The Imperial shocks are not much longer at all.

Good stuff Rob!
It's such a minor difference it's not worth changing. Probably no benefit at all.
Think of all those shocks we replaced back in the day, was it all just an urban myth? Lol!

"B" body shocks, on most shelves ready to go!
