creates the slap stick actuation? The rooster comb/gate of the shifter, the handle or ??? Can the slap stick be either round handle or t handle?

it can be either round or t handle, mine is the round one
See here for conversion info, but the shift gate needs to be modified as well as a few other things.

I have the slapstik in my Challenger and just love it. Think it's the greatest OEM auto shifter Mopar came out with.
I agree. I broke my T handle in a 72 Challenger. Replaced just the handle with a round one from a wrecking yard.
I had one that cracked at the screw hole. Too much slapping!

The best. My buddy drove Trans Am's and GM's shifters were mush compared to the Slap Stick.
Yeah mine too driving to work one day. Must be a weak spot.
It is, but also some folks over tighten that screw and stress the little bit of plastic that is on the bottom.
