Hi there,

maybe some of you can help me finding the right way...

it´s about the rear-end of my 65 Barracuda (273er 4bbl.Demon, Offenhauser dual-intake still low-comp)

currently i´m driving it with a 8.75 with 2.76 - but i would not really bring satiesfaction

i have the opportunities to switch the rear with the 3.23 axle out of my valiant or i can get a 4.10 ring and pinion from another guy out of his demon

what should i do ?
switch the 3rd members?
switch the complete axles
pull out the 3rd member and change the ring and pinion (does a 4.10 work with a nearly stock 273er?)

please give me a hint

thanx a lot

The 4.10s will be very low and if you get a good bite you may want to but
frame connecters on.
Just if you have some hp. Yep 4.10 gears will keep it parked !!
I agree with 70dartmike, I like driving mine and keeping it off a trailer.
The 3.23 will be a nice change from 2.73 gears

I cant rember where but i,ve heard that somewhere in the ladder of ratios you need a different carrier than the 276 carrier as the ring gear carrier is different than one for lower gears.Maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in.

Timo: I would just pull the 3:23 center section from the Valiant and put it in the 65. Just check the pinion end to make sure the U-joints are the same size, and that your driveshaft will fit correctly to the new center. his way, if you don't like the change, it's easy to swap things back the way they were.

I used to drive a 383 4-speed 70 Challenger on the autobahns in Germany, and with the 3:23 gears, cruising was quite tolerable. However, when I'd put the 3:91's in there to go racing, the cruise became mush less pleasurable! RPM's were howling on the autobahn, and every sucker in a VW was blowing by me. :)
