I have a 30 340 block now freash hone job and cam bearings/freeze plugs.now I have bme pistons on eagle h beams should be about 11.51 comp with 68 cc heads that has a slight port job and clean up flow 240@500/140@500 I have 15/8 headers and a set of 17/8 headers also I have 950 hp carb 727 trans and 5000 verta dynamic and 4.86 gears with 27 tall qtp car is a 70 duster thats 3200 with me in it......give me some input on the build for the req. hp cam was a comp cam 306 mag 555/555 ........with the head flow and comp what would you install cam wise??????:glasses6::dink:

You need a solid cam and about 7500rpms to make 500hp out of a 340.

My last 340 made just over 480hp.

1973 340 block
* decked to +.020 deck height(pistons above deck)
* bored .030 over
* Ross flat tops with max weight removal option*** and .927 pin bores* B&B tool steel wrist pins, 2.500 X.927 X .090 wall(piston and pin 525g)
* OE rods bushed to .927, fully polished, resized, lightened, ARP bolts
* OE steel crank( reground, strokes equalized, indexed)
* Milodon deep pan
* Melling oil pump
* double roller timing set
* Crower 262/265 @ .050, .575/.585 solid lifter cam
* Crower lifters
* ported 587 heads with MP 2.02/1.60 valves, milled for true 11:1 CR flow 260/173 at .600 lift
* bronze guides and hardened exhaust seats
* Crower dual springs
* Comp 10deg retainers and machined locks
* Edelbrock victor intake
Holley/Proform 830cfm carb
* Harland Sharp 1.5 roller rockers and HD thick wall shafts
* Crane pushrods
* MP moly coated fuel pump eccentric
* MP OEM replacement 340 damper

so a nice soild cam but the 7500 is way high dont you think????this is the deal I would like to get this thing to run some low 7.0 in the 1/8 mile it has been some 7.70 with a 1.77 60' at 89.9mph before I put on the new ss springs alos I plan to set the pinion to 7or5 this time as well....I plan to do a new motor soon I just want this one to run the # for me at least.......

Mine made peak power at 6900rpms, We took it to 7200rpms with no loss in power.

This motor went 11.60 at 3600lbs (b body) with 5.13 gears (30" tire) and a 5500rpm converter. It should have gone low 11s in a A body with ease.

so you think with the setup that I have it's possible to get my #'s????????

I think you would be shy off a true 450hp. I think you would need better heads,

yea I'm just going to make the best of what I have now ....I may buy a 4'' crank and some piston later on and use hte rods I have now.....

Now your talking stroke it..my little 416 cranks out 520 h.p. with only a 533/552 cam,and thats at only 6600 rpms..has gone 11.02 in my '70 duster,will be in the 10's when i change over to 4.30's this offseason...

yea I wanted to do a stroker a for a while but you get so many miss answers on them some make good power some dont. most just talk about the tq thats made and I think some time the power that some make with strokers you can make with stock parts....but I do alot of reading so maybe I need real world input......who has the best price on the cast cranks and would kb pistons work as good as the ross diamond stuff????? also would a cast crank be okay ex. bal like all the 360 where??????

This may be of interest to someone . 3250 lb car runs 10.52 @ 127 mph W 1.43 60 ft. 430 gears shift is at 6000, for sale $7,450.00 , LESS than 100 passes

You should be fine with a cast crank,thats what i'm running in mine and quality parts are always a plus i've got Diamond pistons in mine expensive but worth it to me..building a good motor always comes down to finding the right machinist and builder..

I know thats right I have to find someone to build my little stroker motor when I get all my parts. not alot of small block mopars around my parts...alot of big blocks ..I have heard alot of good talk about the new k1 stuff and the scat kits....I saw a add for a kit that was like 1000.00 not sure whats in the kit....one more ??? what about the ex bal job is that okay or does it have to be int. bal... alot of talk about that as well.....

thats a nice deal on the post sure wish I had that much cash to spend at on time.....whats the combo and head flow on that little bad small block????if you dont mind me asking......:angel5:

The heads fliw 280 cfm on the intake side, there is still a lot more in these heads INDY offers a cnc port which brings them to 320 cfm
