I know a few people have gutted their old gauge clusters to make custom gauge pods. Is there anything there that will affect the other gauges/lights?

My oem speedo doesn't work(shakes at speed/isnt accurate) and i'm not in the mood to mess with lubing the cable/changing the speedo gears to accomodate the tires(which will change frequently). On top of that i'm just a little more involved in getting my car to run/handle right.

So i was thinking tonight that maybe i could gut that speedo section of the stock cluster, buy a GPS speedo, and make a cheap plate to mount it on that gutted area for the time being and retain the oem gauges that work.

Obviously not an aesthetic or permanent setup, just until i get around to buying the other gauges and buy an insert.

It would be less work to just clean and lube your original.

If you really want a temporary GPS set up, just buy some velcro tape and stick it over original speedometer cover.

No reason to drive around with a butchered looking dash.
