 Going to look at a 70 340 Swinger today. From What I am told everything is there but it has not been on the road for 10+ years.was driven once 7 years ago just to move it to another location. It is an automatic car with a 340, it has headers and a cam, I have been told the paint is bubbling in spots as well as the vinyl roof. Thing is I have to consider many things in my offer. I don't even know if there is a battery in it, I know the chrome is bad, tires are shot, old Cragars are rusted, potentally at the very least I will have to re and re the gas tank, probably need a new carb or a rebuild, front end?cooling system flush, pressure test, fluids change in the rear, trans etc, brakes maybe ignition and wires, belts, hoses, battery, exhaust, and maybe more just for it to be a driver. So if the car itself is in good condition but may need some or all of these things done(it will) what is it worth/ We are talking Canadian bux here, any thoughts? I know this is a tough queston. I think I could easly spend 3 grand, including tires and wheels just to get it up and running right, on top of the purchase price, by the way he has not indicated to me what he wants.....

Hey Sparky,

There are a lot of variables at work here. Are the bubbles in the paint because of rust? What is the interior like? Is it a numbers matching car? How much does he want to sell it? If the answers to those questions are, no, good, yes and average, then it comes down to how much you want it. If you can get it for $3000 Can. then you have done well.

I think the moter is numbers, not sure how good the interior is and there has been previous body work so I'm thinking that is where the bubbling is from. I do know 3,000 won't buy it.

You said it yourself Sparky. You could spend 3 on it on top of the purchase price just to get it on the road. All of the things you mentioned will probably need to be done. Other things like brakes and paint will add up quick to. Like I said, if you can get it for 3 then you have done well. More realisticly (sp) you would probably pay about 4 on the average. I see the odd one going for between $2500 to $3000 U.S. that are still drivable but just barely. They just seem to be always to far away.

My brother and I went to look at a 69 340 swinger sounds like in about the same condition. Red with a black stripe. Real rough around the edges, but a car you could spend a weekend on ,clean it up and not be embaressed to drive. It had a smogger 340 in it to boot. We offered this dude $8,000 Canadian for it and he yurned it down flat. He wanted over $10,000. I personally think it was worth more to him as a conversation piece. I do not really think he seriously wanted to sell it. Anyways with the prices of these old Mopars skyrocketing, and decent cars dissappearing , if it is a reasonable price jump on it. They are gettin scarce. Just my opinion. I love those 69 - 70 Darts. BBLM23's Dart looks awesome.

Looked at the Swinger last night. The body is very straight and solid. Drivers rear quarter down low has some bubbles as well as the vinyl roof in a few spots around the edges. Trunk and floor pans are solid, no evidence of water comming in behind the glove box area. I could not get a jack under it as all four tires were flat. The problem with it is that it has been sitting on dirt floor garages for the past decade or so it has been driven/running once since 1989. Because of the moisture it has been exposed to, every thing chrome or used to shine is in rough shape. Made me cry when I liftted the hood. It has a sure grip,391 gears, B&M ratchet shifter, some funky green and white velour seats :pukel: 150 speedo and tack in the rally dash. It is a 340 with a hemi grind purple shaft cam ???and some type of hot heads a well as after market intake and headers and a shift kit. If I can make a deal it will be as is without it running, there is alot of potential as well as risk. I think I will go for it even if I just get it running and flip it but I doubt that as I am starting to fall in love already...

Looks like the deal has been made, will be putting some cash in his hand tomorow and on a trailer this weekend!!! I will post pics soon as I can.
:D :D :D

Just gave him the cash, hope to get it home this weekend!!

:D As I said before it has not run in a long time,1989, I know it has no brakes for sure, not really sure what else at this time but the body is very solid and straight. $3,500 Jack.Canadian, As long as the motor will run without having to tear it down and rebuild it, then I done good!!

Congrats. on your find :thumleft: Looks to be fairly solid from the pix.
Is that a hood mounted tach?Never seen one on a mopar!

 Got it home this afternoon, so far so good, this might turn out to be one of those deals that come around once in a blue moon. Worked on some of the chrome and the wheels for a few minutes and I think it will come back to driver quality. the green velvet seat coverings are starting to grow on me(had two beers) sot of retro. Seriously though if i can fix the brakes and there is nothing major with the motor , its a driver for sure way cleaner underneath than I originaly thought. I am sure thee will be some nasty surprizes but so far I am happy/gratefull :D Oh ya, yes that is a tach mounted on the hood scoop the glass is kind of yellowed but it looks great from the drivers seat. :o
