All,

I have a 73 Dart with a 360 and am swapping an engine in it. My crank pulley on the current engine was a 4 pulley type because the car had a/c, but no longer. The pulley had a bad wobble in it so I' looking for another.

Many of the 3 groove pulleys that I have looked at are smaller in diameter than the one on my old engine. Mine measures around 7" in dia and is 5" tall. Almost every one whether billet or used are smaller in diameter.

Is this the correct size? I'm sure the diameter will effect the speed of the water and steering pump and alt.

Should I use a 2 groove since I have p/s.

Can anyone recommend a set up for my car?

Thanks,

Marion

The original a/c cars had double pulleys for the alt and water pump that also spun the a/c.

When you go to a non a/c, you need to get a single groove alt or alt pulley, single groove water pump pulley, and a double groove crank pulley for the power steering.

You may also need the proper alternator mounting bracket:

Awesome Guys!

Now I need to locate some old ones............

I have a single pulley Alt, and single Water Pump.

Any comments on Crank Pulley diameter?

Thanks FABO!

Tuners often put smaller diameter "under-drive" pulleys on the crank (or over-size on components) so they give less parasitic loss, so might be preferable for you. Guys here determined that AC cars had a different diameter water pump pulley than non-AC cars and that is the true reason why w.p.'s have 6-blade impellors on AC cars and 8-blade on non-AC cars. I don't know which is the smaller pulley.

I believe you need to have the proper 'depth' on your wp pulley, there's more than one variety. But check your local listings...

Guys,

Thanks for the pics and links to the pulleys. I thinks that I'm good. I had to buy a new non p/s Alt hardware set and new water pump bolts. I have a 2 groove crank pulley and a single groove water pump pulley that came with a engine I got. Cleaned and painted. Let's see how it lines up!

Thanks,

Marion

here is what you need for a 70-up la small block with power steering and no a/c. measurements are included...

Excellent!

The views really help. The FSM not so much.

I have the Alt, wp pulley, and the crank pulley mocked up. I have an alignment issue. The wp pulley is not deep enough and is 6" dia x 2 1/4" tall . So it does not align with alt and crank even close.

Thanks for the link for a new one but that's too rich for my blood at this point.

Now for the search for a used one! Does anyone know the height of the correct pulley? Trying to come up with some criteria for my search for a used one.

Thanks,

Marion

look at my post above.(post #9) no one said you have to buy new ones. the pictures have the measurements in them.. can't be any more simple then that.
