Which type clamps for the 340 bypass hose

I'm about to install the water pump on a 340 Duster motor. I had ordered a set of OEM style hose clamps, and thought those were correct for the bypass hose also. But now I am seeing a lot of folks listing the bypass hose kit from Mopar Performance, and it has the screw type clamps. What kind should it have come with originally? Below is a shop of the Mopar Performance "kit". This is a snapshot from the one SummitRacing is listing.

Are you using a regular rubber bypass hose? Like a Gates or some repro stamped one? Or the MP Silicone bypass hose?

Are you trying to make it look OE stock with the spring ring hose clamps? If so, you shouldn't be using the MP Silicone bypass hose anyways.

I would not use traditional worm clamps on the special Silicone Mopar Performance bypass hose. Those originally came on later made 80's cop cars. Those need a special clamps that have a smooth underside so the silicone hose material does not easily squeeze through it. I personally use ABA brand clamps for those: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Clamp-M8X14-Stainless-Steel-width/dp/B00HPZV8R2"]#3 ABA Hose Clamp M8X14 Stainless Steel Band width 9mm Min Dia 8mm Max Dia 14mm: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific[/ame] You will even see rubber hose material get squeezed or cut the edges from worm clamps over time. I use the ABA clamps on rubber too on my modifed type car.

But if you are looking for an orginal look, the spring clamps are fine for rubber hose.

Thanks for the replies.... I had thought all the original bypass hoses were silicone. I have owned several small block Dusters (6) and 2 Aspens. All those bypass hoses were painted with the engine, and I never had to replace one. I would think only a silicone hose would last like that.... while I am trying to preserver originality (except where a replacement is an obvious improvement) I will not be painting the hose, and wanted to use the same type clamps that would have been used in 1973. As for the "worm" clamps in the picture, somebody recently posted on the forum a "trick" of putting black shrink tubing on that type of clamp before installing them. that would help with the appearance, and also help keep the clamp from eating the rubber/silicone underneath it. I personally prefer the looks and simplicity of the spring clamps, even though some say they look like washing machine parts!
