Guys I am wanting to install custom gauges in my 68 dart resto. All the pre made dash inserts are for 70 and up. If I am losing all the original stuff will a custom panel physically fit inside the hole on a 68?

Only difference im aware of is whether it's a rally dash or non rally...
If your current cluster is rectangular the 70 should fit.

Physically the dash frame is bolt in.

Sounds like the aftermarket gauge "inserts" he is referring to are for 70 and up non rally dusters, demons, valiant, etc.

You will most likely need to cut and modify your dart dash frame to fit the bigger duster style gauges in.

I know it’s a bit different with our Australian built Dodge Darts but thought I’d share what I managed to do with my 69 by designing a panel, laser cutting it, vinyl wrapping it with a brushed aluminum finish and fitting it up with Speedhut gauges.
