Will Formula S center caps stay on with no outer ring?

Hello,

I just got a 1966 Barracuda Formula S. It has bare 14 inch wheels with no hubcaps or wheel covers. It also has these really long lug nuts.

I see many 1966 era center caps on EBay, but no outer ring. Is the center cap held on by the lug nuts, or do I need the outer ring to hold the center caps?

I was thinking of painting my wheels in body color, and then having only center caps with no outer rings.

Hey, thanks for the quick response. I was thinking of just buying one center cap of EBay and trying it, so you just saved me $30!

No problem, the 14" Formula S hubcaps are hard to come by. If you do find a set there pretty pricey! 65'

OK, so here’s another question...

Can I install regular Barracuda/Valiant wheel covers? (The kind of wheel covers that cover up the entire hub and lug nuts)

Or will my long wheel studs prevent this?

You can always buy regular or chrome lugnuts and run a full wheel cover. Although some wheel covers demand a deeper wheel but not all , or just dogdish caps.
