switched from a B body 440 to a 340 duster,still have the 727 stall converter from 440,,will this converter work in a 340 727? thanks

Yes. Makes no diff if it's a big or small block trans. The converters are the same as long as it's the right spline count which is year dependant. 62-66 used a 19 spline converter and 67 up used a 24 spline converter.

Be carful, did it come off of a forged crank 440 (internal balance) and is it going onto a forged crank 340, there could be a converter weight problem if you switch them.

it came off a forged 440 crank, this is my first 340,how will i be able to tell if crank is a forged unit?

Good catch Terry. My bad for forgetting about the weights.

I believe 68-71 were forged and 72-73 were cast but I'm not an expert on it so take it with a grain of salt. Since the converter is the main point of interest here look at it and if it has an extra weight welded to the front surface near the outer diameter it's for a cast crank. If there's no extra weight it's for a forged crank. With no extra weight they are considered neutral balanced.

The stall speed will will also change slightly, probably will be a tad lower putting it behind a sb Mopar. Is it stock or aftermarket, what speed?

motor is still in car,73 duster 6cyl that some changed to 340,8 3/4 rear, the only thing i know for sure it has J heads,,converter is 4200 stall,so i'm gonna lose stall speed when i install on 340?

If it is a cast crank from a 73 you can pull off the lower pulley off the balancer. On the balancer it should have the words stamped on it {use on cast crank only} If it has the currect balancer that is. I have two cast cranks with balancers and both are stamped that way.

More than likely you will loose some. The ammount a converter will stall varies by the torque input from the engine. Since a 440 makes more torque than a 340 the same converter used behind a 340 won't stall as high as it would behind a 440.

Taking this into consideration figures like many torque converter companies advertise can be decieving. A good converter company requires you to fill out a spec sheet which has all the info about your entire car including weight with you in it. With that info they build the converter to stall the ammount you want.
