will these drums work on a bodies?

-
Try looking up the bearing numbers for the two cars & see if they're the same. Not saying that if the bearings are the same then the drums will swap, but there's a better chance.

When I'm trying to figure things like this out I spend a lot of time on parts websites to check the interchangeability of things. Places like Napa & Advance Auto sites.

I dont know if this will help but heres some #s
I am going to look into this also

That's all for now. I'm gonna have to acquire some more of these Crash

Estimating guides, they're great reference material. Even list the decals

like Levi's and Cassini for the fenders and their part #'s.

----------------------------------------------------

NOTES from Andrew Hay ([email protected]):

Bendix 2, 3, and 'delco' mix-n-match parts like rotors and pads.

2a seems to be the same caliper as 2 but thick pads and thin rotors.

Bearings are listed as 'timken set 6 inner, set 2 outer' for -all- drum and

disk '58-'83 -except- '74-'78 Bendix, which take 'set 17 inner, 16 outer'.

Oil seals are listed as 47523 for '74-'78 Bendix, 46130 for all other disk

and drum.

Spindle Interchange:

Pre-70 4-piston Bendix

70-74 Kelsey

74-78 big Bendix

77-79 4-cyl Bendix [thin rotors]

77-8? Bendix

and probably a host of others...

hers what ifound from advance auto's website, incase yall want to ceck behind me. The parts i looked up were for a 71 dart, and 70 amc gremilin. Both cars with 9 inchx2 inch drum front brakes. These are National brand bearings, and they are just for reference purposes.Inner front wheel bearing, part #A6,both cars.Outer wheel bearings,A2,both cars.Front wheel seals, amc #7022s.&1 dodge dart,#41257.spindle nut,Dorman brand,#05190,both cars.dust caps,MotorMite brand#05190,both cars. Also both cars call for the same wheel cylinder, rubber brake hoses. The only difference i see so far is the oil seal, wich i dont understand, being the bearings are the same.Maybe there is something im not thinking about here?

Its starting to look like a bolt on deal to me.I think im gonna go buy a set of the seals and see if they are the same as the ones in my dart now.Could have been a misprint of the part number or something.

ok,heres another idea i had.Well, more like i remeber reading somewere that if you swap the backing plates from a front drum equipped b body, the 10 inch x2 inch front drums will swap right over.I happen to have a 71 satellite sitting here, with new front drums on it.I might try that swap tomarrow and see what happens. It it does work, people will just about give you these drums, because they wont disc brakes. As long as you get the backing plates with, the rest can be bought new, like shoes, spring kit, etc.I believe the wheel cylinders are the same also.I looked up the part #s for bearings, and they are the same as for the stock 71 dart.again, these drums call for a different oil seal,so im sure there is something up with that

i heard you don't get enough thread on the spindle nut to make it safe.
but i would love to be wrong.
good luck

the amc 9 inch drums won't work. they fit but not safely.not enough nut on the spindle. i tried to find the link that had been written on it on autohobbydigest but its not there any more.
if somebody can get them to work, i'd go that route myself.

from what i remember the article said the spindle doesn't fit in the hole of the amc drum as far as the mopar one .you can try it ,just return the drums if they don't fit.or try the junkyard.
