So, due to a milky white crud growing around the edges of my windshield on my 68 Dart 4 door and a small crack near the rear view that was repaired and would not run, but still looked unsightly I decided to replace the windshield. It took two weeks to finally get the guy here after the call because of the 'fun' it took to find the window.
To back up a little I called the 3 most local auto glass people, 2 said they could do it, one said I was screwed, that I would have to find a windshield in a junk yard because they were not available, plain and simple.
the lower bidder got the job and they found a peice of glass. It was shipped to them but it broke in transit. A week of searching and I got another one. When the guy showed up he told me it was the last one out there.
Is this true or not? I don't know. The guy who told me that my glass was simply not available first looked for a 2 door and quoted me a price, when he found out it was a 4 door is when I became screwed.
I got the window replaced for under $200, which is probably pretty damn cheap if it is really that rare.
After it was all said and done, I have to say that it is amazing. I mean, its like... totally clear! I can... See! Anyone who wears glasses will understand this analogy, its like getting a new pair of glasses, you do not know how badly you need them until you get them.
the guy who did the work was real nice, showed me how to do the work myself if I need to remove it for painting or repairs. Said aside from his boss he is the only guy in the company that can do cars as old as mine.
Was all in all a wonderful experience.
