Hi all I drive a 1968 Dart 270 and the one of the wires that connect to the bulkhead from the wiper motor got really hot and melted the damn coating off. What's wrong? I think it was a green wire and when I taped the thing up and tried to put it back on the wire burned up again. I'm stumped.

You must be drawing too much current. Is the motor getting old and have some drag/interference to moving...

You have a multi meter?
this check the resistance of the green wire to chassis ground. sounds like you may have a short to ground or within the motor. a bad brush, commutator or rotor or as stated above a semi locked rotor.

The dart does run and the motor seems to run fine aside from some bogging out when I step on it. Actually it's weird because when I check the timing with a timing gun the line appears around 80 degrees before! Yet it runs fine at that spot. I might have a volt meter to check the wiring but if I were to hook it up the wipers will stay on no matter what and the burning will happen again.

It does have drag/interference to it but I think that might be the brakes. They get stuck after I stop.
For future reference, Motor is Electric Engine is Gasoline, He is referring to drag in the wiper Motor.

My standard answer for wiper help ...........because there are several setups, and because things changed a bit here and there is.....

go to MyMopar if you don't have, and download yourself a factory service manual

http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=31

and then browse around the Passion site. There's a LOT of info there on wipers. Be sure you get down the path to the correct setup for your car
