i have 2 issues in my 72 duster 340 4-speed car

issue 1 i was driving along one day when the car backfired--when this happened, the ammeter went to showing 60 amps charging--upon reaching my destination, i turned the ignition switch to the off postion but the engine kept running--pulled the engine wiring harness off an stripped the plastic wrapping off of the wires but wires looked good--flexible and supple--the black #12 wire connector from the bulkhead connector to the alternator is miscolored like it has been too hot

issue 2 i have another wiring harness for the under dash out of a 74 a-body that has the seat belt starter interlock in it--what do i need to do to make this harness work in my 72 which does not have any of this in it---any ideas will be greatly appreciated--thanks in advance

I don't believe the fault is in the engine harness. More likely under the dash, either the ignition switch harness connector beneath the column ( it is white plastic which makes melting easier to see ) or the ignition switch itself.

Most likely, the thick black (ALT) or thick red (BATT) wire in the bulkhead terminal melted the plastic so it is touching your IGN1 wire that powers the ignition. Check the pinout to see if those terminals are adjacent. A melted bulkhead is a common problem (except 1963 & 1965 cars), and why the "MAD Bypass" is so popular (search that).
