"Florida Woman Stops Alligator Attack Using a small .22 caliber Ruger Pistol." Another good reason to have a concealed weapons permit.
This is a story of self-control and marksmanship by a brave, cool-headed woman with a small pistol against a fierce predator.
Here's her story in her own words: "While walking along the edge of a pond just outside my house in the Villages discussing a property settlement with my soon-to-be ex-husband, and other divorce issues, we were surprised by a huge 12-ft alligator which suddenly emerged from the murky water.
It began charging us with its large jaws wide open. She must have been protecting her nest because she was extremely aggressive.
"If I had not had my little Ruger 22 caliber pistol with me, I would not be here today! Just one shot to my estranged husband's knee cap was all it took.
The gator got him easily, and I was able to escape by just walking away at a brisk pace. The amount I saved in lawyer's fees was really incredible and his life insurance was also a big bonus!"

Old farmer noticed some rich guy with a fancy rig catching fish in the farmer's private pool. He kept going on his tractor til he got up to the house, then quietly walked down there.

"Nice mess o' fish you got there," says the farmer.

"Thank you, this your pond?"

"That's right, and I'll take those fish."

"I think NOT said the rich guy."

"Well," said the old farmer, "around here we settle things with the three kick rule."

"How does THAT work."

"Well the aggrieved party kicks the accused three times, and then they switch and the accused gets in his three licks, until someone wants to quit."

The rich guy looked over the old farmer and thought, "how bad can this be?" So he told the farmer, "Let's go."

The farmer says, "Ok I get to go first."

The first kick right in the gonads was much harder and more painful than the rich guy ever realized was possible, and he dropped to his knees in pain. The second kick was worse, and the rich guy fell on his face in pain, blood from his forehead. He didn't even feel the third kick.

But he came to, a little bit, and told the old farmer, "OK it's my turn."

"That's OK,", said the farmer, "I give up. You can have the fish!!"

I do approve of a 22 cal revolver but against a gator Im not so sure
I've been told if you carry a .22 for self defense to make sure you file off the front sight, that way it won't hurt so bad if you shoot someone with it and they shove it up your rear

If the story is indeed true, she got off an EXTREMELY lucky shot. Gators and crocs have really hard skulls and there is a very small area where a bullet will penetrate. The nuisance gator people I've dealt with in TX, LA, MS, AL, GA and FL all use "30" caliber weapons (i.e. 30-30, 30cal carbine and such).

And.. like he said.. be careful about shooting home intruders with the .22... it will just piss em off. Or a hollow point will help...maybe.

Al, it is illegal to harm or harass alligators in any of the southern states I mentioned. Some of my contractors got a hefty fine slapped on them when we were in LA for chasing some baby gators. According to what we were told, if we ran across a gator that impeded our work we were to call the wildlife people.

I had a buddy once , was acting all depressed. So I asked him what was wrong. He told me
" Well it's 20 years since my divorce, If I'd just shot her , I'd be getting out on parole today !

:poke: :lol::lol:

I used to carry a 9mm while bow hunting just in case I came nose to nose with a bear while going through brush . Then I realized that unless he got scared from the muzzle blasts
I would probably just piss him off .

Read it again, the bullet did not go into the skull, and it also did not go into the gator

If I have to kill anything bigger than a rabbit I’m not using a.22 that’s for sure. The old 30/30 carbine works well for exterminating vermin, quick and accurate. But then again I have no need to conceal it.

You do not want to just blast a gator in the head. The skull will be like a grenade. You do not want to get hit by shards of bone.
There is a soft spot at the back of head and a 22 is what most use. Or longer range 22WMR
Very common to hunt alligator with Ruger 10-22, nylon 66 etc. Most use a beat to hell gun, that functions just fine but we call a boat gun

Very entertaining thread. @PROSTOCKTOM, you really had me going for a minute. But you can kill a 12-foot gator with a 22. Don't you guys watch Swamp People on History channel. They shoot the gator in the 1" spot behind the skull/eyes, and it kills the gator. If it's on TV, it has to be true, right!

Tee Hee Hee!
(I watched swamp people once with the gf. The one I saw, they were using a 12 gauge slug. In the mouth.

My buddy Crazy Ronnie was a avid swamp hunter/ fisher.
I helped him get one out to clean and harvest the meat. He cut around the legs. Then around the head. Then split it. To save the skin.
Most eveyone just saves the tail. That's where most of the meat is.
