I'm not sure if any of you have delt with this or not but we have a huge problem at my place of employment. I have a rant about a co worker that is constantly harassing his co workers. There are 9 of us in the office that have to work with this guy. He has been written up so many times and been disciplined practically every time. He has had final warnings and final final warnings. Of course it is progressive discipline. He has a lead worker that he will directly disrespect and our immediate supervisor he hates with a passion and tries to get him in trouble for breathing wrong.

This guy is pretty much a A-hole to everyone and he is known around the facility as the hater. He has been moved to different departments only to be kicked out and right back into ours. Problem is the union backs him and gets his discipline reduced. Every two years he can wipe out any discipline he has had and start over. It is getting to the point where a few of us are considering looking for other work. I've had to deal with this guy for 12 years some of the guys longer, some shorter. We have filed harassment complaints to HR and the union and they seem to get tossed under the rug.

We have no idea where to turn to? We work in a prison and its bad enough dealing with the inmates, we shouldn't have to deal with this from a co worker. We have had Conflict resolution to try to get this guy to work with us and get along with no success. He has had to attend classes outside the facility on his own to learn to respect his co workers and that has also failed. Any suggestions on what steps we could take? Besides a blanket party?

EEOC?......Employed at the Post Office for close to 20 years. Harassment ran wild, both by management and employees. Sounds like he is creating a hostile work environment. Might be time to start writing letters to the Unions headquarters.......

Has he made comments to women in your office that could be considered sexual harassment? Employers take this very serious especially if a lawsuit is a possibility.

I filed a harassment complaint against him when I first started for the same thing. I filed it with EEOC. He got 1 day off and didnt talk to me for 9 years, except for work related stuff. Which was fine with me. During our Conflict resolution he finally realized he was harassing me and apologized but its starting all over again. Like I said the union here is a joke, but perhaps we need to go higher than the local union

Dang, the Union I was in for 31 years woulda helped fire a guy like that!!! Seen it happen (many times) so I speak from experience.

Sexual harrasment should get him escorted out quickly, and there doesnt have to be any members of the opposite sex involved.

Go to EEOC again

Let them know this is a second complaint. Harassment laws are stricker now than 10 years ago.

Also go past your local union if complaints are not addressed.

I see too many worthless in out place that would be gone, but once a few complaints go outside they have to start looking at them.

Any normal place I would agree. I work for the state and they are afraid to fire people because of lawsuits (Im guessing). Seems like our union likes to fight administration just to prove them wrong and keep the worthless slugs. Meanwhile the employee's that actually care and get along get crapped on and have to deal with this stuff.

We do have one guy that has been thinking of getting a lawyer, but Im not sure that is the answer.

We had a guy like that who would constantly and beligerantly harass coworkers. He would get "promoted" until he was just sitting in an office and eventually was walked out. He was trying to get another job and was speaking to his "future employer" on the company phone one day and our plant manager caught wind of it and walked him out.

This was only after 4 years, multiple harassment lawsuits (by men) and tens of thousands of $$$$ lost due to his underbidding of jobs. Those of us who'd been there longer just didn't understand why the owner kept him around. It was like this guy had some dirt on him or something. Lied about everything and would even call his own daughter a S.O.B. He was proud of the fact that he was a former Master Chief in the Navy and knew everything there was to know about everything. Needless to say he was completely full of poop.

Hope something can be done, even if a whole group of you get a lawyer and show them you're serious.

Oh yeah, one day he brought his $40,000 chopper in there to take it apart and repaint and stuff....big mistake. The many guys who didn't like him or he ticked off, took whatever pieces he left in the shop and hid them in various places throughout our 100,000sqft facility. LOL.

Good point, might be worth having a female or male for that matter bringing him up on trumped up sexual harassment charges. Sorry to hear. My dad was a jail guard for close to 30 years and a police officer before that. Dad was the union rep for the local but he said it was a joke...employess who called in "sick" too many times actually were able to negotiate how many sick days an employee would have in a year....HR would sit down and ask do you need 20?? Employee "nope I think I will need 30" HR rep..."sounds good, sign here"...ridiculous

Kinda reminds of the dick in the movie "Green Mile"

Drug him, dress him in drag, toss him in the cell block, and open the cells on the way to lunch. I'm sure the inmates wouldn't mind.

When I was at the Post Office going over the locals heads was pretty much the only way to get things resolved. Might want to see if you can get more than one letter/signature, kind of start a "class action" compliant about the guy.

There are lots of pro's and con's about unions. That is one of the problems I have with them. They protect someone like this, and in turn, keep the company from hiring someone who could actually be an asset to the company, and the other employees.

Ever been in the military? In the Navy, we had what is called a "blanket party." This IS one way to unofficially straighten out problem children.

My deceased buddy used to work for Scripps institute as a marine radio officer. He told me about one guy they kept having problems with and "some of the engineering guys" got ahold of him and wrapped him up with duct tape---head to toe. He was found cringing under a ladder in the corner. Nobody knew or had seen or heard a damn thing.

Yes I have but we all want to keep our job and being a prison there are cameras everywhere! Thats not a option in this case but I do like the idea!

Get organized and tell the union that you are going on strike untill something is done about it.

THats the union way isn't it ?

Couldnt agree more with you!!!

Your best bet is to go outside the work place and the union. File a complaint with city or federal EEOC. The more co workers that back you the merit it will recieve. It won't look like one on one pissing match.

Im going to bring this up to the rest of the guys tomorrow. I think it is our only option now!

Thanks all for the input!

Who says the blanket party has to be at work?

Otherwise, have everyone, employees and management sign a petition that you all want this guy gone.

Well after talking with everyone involved in this we wrote up a 6 page complaint about this guy and the stuff he has done. It doesnt nearly cover everything but Im sure more will come up if they investigate it. We are having a final meeting and sending the paper work off.

There you go, he will be Immediately Terminated for that kind of conduct.

I think someone needs to find this guy outside the camera's eye and knock the **** out of him. When asked what happened...... He told us he tripped over his own feet............??
