I'm in Missouri. I have an RB Trans, but I want overdrive, I don't have Gear Vendors money, and I have self-respect so i won't use a GM OD unit. So my plan is to beef an A-518 and couple it to a 440.

Why not just swap the internals? I had a BBM 727 and swapped everything to a SBM 727 case.

There are no BBM 518 trans cases. He has to adapt. Who makes the bell housing that bolts to the trans pump and you saw off the SBM portion of the trans?
edit, Looked it up, JW Performance, Ultra Bell #92457. BUT, looks like a no to availability.

There are extra passages etc for the OD tail unit in the 518 case .

I have a friend that works for a company that markets adapter kits for all kinds of trany/engine swaps . I am trying to talk him into producing one for a 518 to BB swap .

I thought that they just used the passages from the mechanical governor to run the clutch pack in the overdrive and the rest of the changes are in the valve body...however I may be wrong.

I have a friend that works for a company that markets adapter kits for all kinds of trany/engine swaps . I am trying to talk him into producing one for a 518 to BB swap .

There's a couple companies that make them. One wants you to cut off the ear on the engine block, the other one wants you take a hole-saw to your trans case. There's got to be a better way.

I've considered getting the JW Ultrabell, installing it, welding in place, and then machining the inside out so the pump can be removed. Those pump bolts aren't particularly huge.
