YUCK.....YUCKO.....POOEY!!!

I'm on the five year rotation because of my family history and previous polyps. I've been using the Miralax the last few times without incident. The prep is always the worst part of it. A nice "milk of amnesia" nap and a decent meal afterwards helps to make it up to yourself.

I washed that square gallon jug out and keep it in the basement. When I get down in the dumps and feel like things are kinda bad, I walk downstairs and look at that damn jug and it reminds me that things can be worse...lol. Drinking that stuff is like walking out in the ocean and taking a BIG gulp! :BangHead:

Spend the money for the good stuff, small volume. I tried the gallon jug and my body absolutely rejected it, as in projectile vomiting. Lucky I was close to the bathroom.

I made it thru the 2nd round of prep.....barely! The rest of it was a breeze. Great nurses and a top notch doctor doing both procedures. My Barret's esophagus is unchanged and good and they only found one polyp during the colonoscopy. They moved me to the 5 year plan instead of every 3 years, so I'm gonna call it a win! The nurse told me that they are going to stop using the Suflave prep because it doesn't work as well as other preps and everybody hates it. Thanks to all that chimed in. :)

My Dr. office told me what to get for the prep... it was Miralax (don't remember the OZ.) mixed with Gatorade (as long as it wasn't the red one). Easy peasy. Except for my wife making food while I couldn't eat anything. I have to again in 2 years due to polyps that were removed tested positive for cancer. Best to get them out early!!

The first one I had was Go-Lytely. Ugh. Then they complained that I wasn't 'cleaned out' all the way. Hey, if things worked right, I wouldn't be here!

The Mirilax and Gatorade is SO MUCH BETTER. There's even flavors of Gatorade that it tastes ok with. I'm considering doing that once every 3-4 months just to keep the pipes clean.

I had a colonoscopy a couple of weeks ago. I threw away everything I had left over when it was done, so can't remember the names, but I had to take four Ducolax pills plus drink the nasty stuff. One bottle the night before, and another the morning of the procedure.

I found out that if I followed a swig of the liquid with a swig of black coffee, it was MUCH more palatable.

Colonoscopy itself was a piece of cake.

There are healthier ways of cleansing. The colonoscopy preps are all chemicals.

Well, I have an Endoscopy and Colonoscopy tomorrow.....and I just drank the 1st round of prep. That is THE nastiest stuff on the face of this earth! :BangHead: Belly is already growling...and every time it does, my little dog Bella gives me the head turned cockeyed, "WTH Dad?" look. I've been on the every 3 years plan for these things since I started having to do it. The prep is the worst part, but it beats not doing it and waking up dead.
Are you having to drink the ! gallon stuff ? Feel for you that sucks !

It was two, one quart plastic bottles with powder in them. Same principal as the old gallon jug method. Fill it with water, shake it up and drink it. The nasty stuff equaled a half gallon, but the water I used to chase it with to kill the taste was probably close to the same. I started the first dose at 5PM yesterday and had to get up at 2AM this morning and do the 2nd dose. My procedures were at 8AM. I don't think I could have drunk one more drop of that mess! I was worried that they might cancel my procedure because I wasn't going clear liquid when I left the house at 6:30. After the 2nd trip to the toilet at the Gastro place, I was clear. Thank goodness! :p

When my date comes around, am i gonna, hafta, drink the entire container of the mix that's in there, when adding the water?
And taking the pills?
The VA already sent me all this, even when my exam is still quite awhile away.

Around here we get very detailed instructions about the colon cleansing process....no high fibre foods for 4 days, fasting the last day plus the pills and drink starting the day before, etc. Did they not provide anything?

I'm supposed to be getting a date for an "instruction class" in preparation for the exam.
Haven't gotten that yet.
Guess it will all be explained to me at that time, and or, when i ask a lot of questions.
But I'm wondering about that "drink"

I had the gallon bottle of dust you add water to. They asked if I wanted it flavored, said no, because whatever the flavor was would always be associated with the prep. While it wasn't a flavor you would want to drink daily, didn't find it unpleasant. Taste buds must be dead. I was hemming and hawwing about my first go around when I was talking with a fellow at a car show. The test came up and he just about jumped down my throat and told me to get it done or else! Seems he kept putting it off and they had to remove four feet (I think) of his intestines. Hmmm. better get a call in to the doc and get that set up for later in the year. Thanks all for the reminder!

With the one I know of you drink half the night before and half the next day 5 hours before your appointment. I took the pills the afternoon before. The stuff you have may come with different recommendations. Make sure the drink is chilled and use orange Gatorade to chase each swig.

I’m not sure I’ll ever buy orange Gatorade again

That is why I asked for non-flavored prep drink. Doesn't make sense to drink something loaded with sugar when they are checking for cancer, seeing as how cancer feeds on sugar. Oh well, probably just me.

I just woke up from mine, they found three polyps, got to go back next year.

If your procedure is early in the morning, you will probably be instructed to drink half of it starting at 5 pm the night before your procedure. Then you will have to drink the other half starting 5 hours before the time of your procedure. Since there's 2 bottles of pills, you may have to take one bottle with the first dose and the other bottle with the second dose. Chasing it with something to knock the taste out of your mouth makes it more tolerable. Did they tell you that you will need a driver to come with you and stay there during the procedure? The procedure itself is over and done with quickly. They had to do both and Endoscopy and Colonoscopy on me. They only found and removed one polyp this time, so I got promoted to the 5 year plan instead of every 3 years. They started at 8 am and I was done and out of recovery walking to the car at 9:15 and my wife & I headed to Cracker Barrel to eat breakfast.

Ya, I'm pretty sure i need a driver to sign me in when i get to the Mather VA hospital, and then after the procedure to take me back home.
Now i hafta figure out who that can do that for me.
I live alone, no family, and will hafta be a good friend here in the city, or a neighbor of mine.

The hospital I went to just needed a contact name and number at drop off. If you get the same drugs I got you will definitely be impaired for hours afterwards.

Maybe get one of your friends you go out to eat with or hang out with to take you. Y'all could stop and eat on the way home, because you will be starved to death not eating for 24 hrs. before the procedure. After you get home, pile up and enjoy the good nap that comes from the leftover Jackson juice they used to knock you out. I look forward to that nap more than getting to eat...lol.

Does the county have a "taxi" service for trips to the hospital? Not just for the ride to and fro, but make sure you get in the house okay when done.

Why all the colonoscopies? Are people having problems down there? Or are they just regularly scheduled procedures?
