Need some help with high torque 408 build

I picked up a 415 small block stroker from INDY in 2004. This was just the short block internally balanced, mopar cast crank,SIR rods, weisco pro true dish pistons for $2800. No cam or timing chain. just assembled block with crank, rods and pistons. I used my edelbrock heads with slight mods...

New Hot Start issue. Suggestions please. Now What?

Does the carb still have gas in it after sitting for 15 min? Might be evaporating out from hot intake heat rising up.? Jayson

    Too much endplay question.

If you have .090 end play your block might be junk. I had a 340 that would heat up in traffic. Took it apart at the end of the season and found major end play. Crank was hitting the block and junked the block. Probably junk convertor balloning. Jayson

Cam Bearings too tight, any suggestions??

I went to install my cam and one bearing had a tight spot. I just used some Dykem blue on that bearing reinserted the cam and found the small area that was rubbing and used the bearing scraper in that tiny area. Cam turned easy after that. Jayson

    Indy 415 Small Block

Hey Mike the cam I have is from Comp Cams. When I called Comp Cams to ask for valve springs they said it was a custom grind so I guess Indy requested it made this way. intake .534 exhaust .555 106 centerline. Duration @50 IN 250 EX 262. My heads did have a little port work but were never...

    Indy 415 Small Block

I purchased a 415 smallblock storker off Indy Cylinderhead in 2004 for $2950. It was a short block assembled with a internal balance, mopar performance cast crank, SIR rods, Weisco pistons, pump gas engine. I asked them for a cam and they selected one for me and said the engine would make 450hp...

Honing with Torque Plates - How Important?

Before I went to work for Detroit Diesel I was a Machine Toolbuilder for 13 years. I helped build and install several cylinderblock lines at Ford plants that did all of the metal cutting for the block. Another company did the hone machines , Gehring was the name of the company and they did the...

    Small block strength

I've been running a 1975 360 block that's stroked to 415, cast crank internally balanced with about 450 horse. Engine is 5 years old now and still running 11.50s. I was told by the engine builder that the 360 blocks are safe to 500hp without mods. Jayson

    340 Hot Start Issues.

I use to have a Cordoba that would have a hard time restarting after it sat for about 10 to 15 mintunes due to fuel evaporating. I tried a shield to block the heat and it didn't really seem to help. When I did my Dart I went with a electric fuel pump and it solved the problem. Turn the...

    Big Set Back. :(

I know how you feel it's very annoying. I put the same detail into my car and wanted it to be perfect also that's why I'm on my third attempt in 5 years on the oil pan gasket. In the spring I'll pull the engine and replace the gasket and if it don't work I leave it to next year. I've tried the...

    Big Set Back. :(

How bad is the leak. Is it a drop of oil you see forming or is it really leaking. I've struggled since my engine was new with this kind of leak a drop just showing up at the oil pan. I've never tried the rear main seal around the crank but tried different oil pan gaskets, intake ,valve covers...

    Steel VS Cast Crank

Save yourself the money and just use a cast crank and have it internally balanced for that horsepower range in your street car. If you're going to race it every weekend and become a serious racer then go for the forged unit. I've been running a 415sb in my street car with a cast crank that's...

i got a bad rad problem

I friend of mine had his overflow tank hose get plugged with the silver wrapper that seals the antifreeze bottle. So when it was trying to push fluid to the overflow bottle it couldn't. He found out the hard way. It blew the hoses off and the shock from that damaged the rad. Make sure your...

    What oil has zinc now?

When I mentioned that I used 20W 50 Kendall GToil I thought I was just saying just that. You can buy it at Advance Auto and I've proven after 4 years of street driving and 100 plus passes at the track that it was enough to keep my engine from failing. Jayson

    High rpm miss!

Something else I was thinking of if you have MSD. Did you run all of your MSD wires thru the same grommet. The two distributor wires are suppose to be separate from any other wires. They can pickup feedback from other wires and cause problems. Jysnflem

    High rpm miss!

Hey Kevin, you say it's a fresh 340 did you recently do any new wiring under the dash? I had a mis a couple of times at higher rpms years ago and I believe it was a bad ground or loose wire. I redid the wiring the following year and never had it happen again. Jysnflem

What to do? Help me pick...

If you are going to keep an original looking 1967 Dart then go with the 408 or 415. If you do the modern look for your Dart , like 18" wheels or lowering it, custom interiors. I think the new Hemi's can look cool in them. Jysnflem

SB Scat Stroker Kit - Compression??

I'm running a 415 stroker that INDY built the bottom end. Zero deck block and pro tru dish pistons. The pistons have a small area that's dished on the bottom and flat near the top. When I had the heads done they were measured for how many cc's each chamber had and then equalized to the largest...
