New Challenger vs Original

You should buy the $3,000 V-code, 4 speed '70 Challenger that was for sale here and than you can get a new Challenger too. Best of both worlds:toothy10:
 
i was in the same debat in Aug. with my Barracuda or a new Challenger. I sold the barracuda, used it as a down payment, and bought a 2010 srt8. I don't regret it a bit. Its a daily driver for me and i've put more miles on it in 3 weeks than i did on my barrcuda in a year. get what feels right to you.

My daily driver is a Durango. I am tossing around the idea of driving out to the West Coast ( BC ), from Toronto this summer. It would be kinda cool to do it in a vintage Challenger or Cuda. I did the same run on a motorcycle back in the early 70's. No, I'm not looking to relive Vanishing Point...but then again...-:).
 
I am kinda in the same boat there 4 Barrel. I am just north of you in Newmarket. My plan is to drive from Toronto and do the Route 66 tour....ya one day...one day... that would be cool...LOL

Your many replies are appreciated. Thank you. There are indeed many new Challengers to choose from, sitting on dealer lots. To find a really nice, correct and properly restored 70-71 Challenger/Cuda 4 speed car is where I will focus my energy over the next few months. As we all know there are no shortage of new Challengers out there, so if I can't find what I'm looking for, there is a fall back position. Cars-on-line may be a starting place or even Hemmings. It's funny how past memories often occupy a place in the sun. My favourite girlfriend's brother had a new '70 340 Dart Swinger ( B5 blue with white stripe ). I remember her pulling up in it. She looked sooo fine. And so did my 17 yo girlfriend. So what did I end up finding and restoring all those years later...yeah a B5 '70 340 Swinger/white bee stripe. Only the girlfriend was nowhere to be found. Cheers.:happy10:
 
Wow, If you think the new Challenger looks like every other car on the road, you don't get out much.

I agree, and LOL at the people that say they see them everywhere. People tell me all the time, that they never see them.

Mine has always been about being a daily driver, and just put the Blizzaks on for the third season. The only reason I jumped on it at full sticker early, is I had low confidence that Chrysler would be around to produce them very long.


Ordered mine from my dealer right after the Chicago auto show debut, and I wanted MDS, so got the R/T.

Now have almost 30k on it, and love it. For the first six months, it was like being a rock star, but grew tired of that. Would come out to a parking lot and people would be snapping pictures. One time a guy moved his new suburban, to give me a spot that I wouldn't get any door dings!

Mine has gotten as high as 28.6 on trips, and we have taken it on quite a few in the 2,500 mile range. With no mods, the gas tank and trunk full, it went a 13.97 leaving a Corvette well behind.

The SRT would be my choice if I were you.

I believe the new Challenger to be the nicest of the top 3 retro's but as I first said, the rear side window being stationary makes for a cookie cutter manufactured design all three use. Sure are nice up to that there though, like that...

I've always said, to each his own yet was only voicing my opinion. my daily driver is an older 89 Mercedes 300 coupe' but am liking my lowered 90 Silverado 6 speed pick up which is slowly taking the coupes place and if I only finished a couple things on the 64 Signet, I'd be driving that as well. I like vehicles, all kinds as each one had its own personality and I don't have to use credit to buy them or build them.

I've noticed big time here that its always something someone dislikes in regards to what I say without reading its full reply and that's cool with me cause everyone is different
 
Its funny how they're both called Challengers, but the hobby aspect of the cars is totally different.

Old Challys are about finding old parts, going to shows, - admiring. New cars are for driving.

They're both cars, and they're both overpriced. Other than that, you might as well be asking whether you should spend 10,000 on a painting or a pool table.
 
the reason the rear window doesn't go down on the new Challenger is because of the side curtain air bags. not much Dodge can do about that.
 
Get the original and use the left over money for a daily beater.... retro cars loose their appeal real quick.
 
Best of both worlds would be put a modern suspension and drivetrain in an original ebody.

The older ones look better (the new ones are just too "tall") and the newer ones run better and are more reliable.
 
HAHA, put a vinyl roof and bumperettes on the new one.

Seriously, new Challenger is in bad need of being lowered about 1.5"
 
My problem with newer cars is all of the electronic crap. The nice thing about the older cars is they are all mechanical. You can actually work on them and fix them. I think the new Challengers look cool, but I wonder how many of them will still be running 35+ years from now, due to all of their computerized components going bad.
 
i dont like either challenger, the new or old. id buy a charger r/t, yup a 4 dr, or late model mustang before the chally. im not a big b or e body fan. if not an a body i guess an early b body would come before an early chally. i would agree with joe though, find a nice clean early car already restored but not big money package, and upgrade it with late model guts.
 
the chrome stick on crap is hidious looking. if ya want all that chrome go by an old one.

IMO it looks better than what Dodge came out with... The new Challengers have no character and are big slabs... Slab front, rear, and sides... At least the stick on chrome breaks up the slabs... I guess it's one of those "can't put lipstick on a pig" things ;)
