I have a 67 notch back 360 30 over crane cam nothing wild 9.5 compression
What would be my best carb choice with little maintenance and still having good performance? Prefer in a 3 to 5 hundred dollar range.

Edelbrock probably give you the least problems.

Holley's seem to need tuning regularly but I'm sure some will disagree.

I actually run a holley 870 street avenger with vacuum secondaries, but it needs tuned, rejetted every time the weather changes.

any carb will need to be rejetted anytime the weather changes ....

at best ...any carb setting are a compromise ...in the cool morning the jetting might be correct...in the hot afternoon..the jetting might be rich...

that is why EFI runs a O2 sensor...to adjust mixture..

best performance will always come from a holley....

and......the flame war begins

The word "always" tends to light a candle on some people's butt.
I have had decent results with an Edelbrock or Carter AFB carbs. Also I recently purchased a rebuilt Thermoquad 850 to put on my Dodge D100.

What size holley would you run on this set up? Vacume secondaries and elect choke would be nice.

You just asked the gear heads version of talking religion. The argument between carbs probably just turned this thread into the new war zone lol

Easiest bolt on and go carb for you would be the Edelbrock 600.

Same size...

Holleys will usually be superior in performance in every case, but, have more parts in them to mess up.

Ede's are less prone/sensitive to garbage in them.

You want it to run hard, but a holley on. You want to drive around with a generally, pretty trouble free carb, run an Ede.

I call Ede carbs taxi cab carbs...

I'd run a Holley 750 Vacuum Carb on it.

my drive around 73 duster...has a eddy 600...been using this carb for 8 yrs now...never had a problem with it.....choke works in winter...

if i head for dragstrip..eddy comes off...750 holley goes on...

race car use holley double pumpers...

i agree with crackedback above.....750 vacuum holley..

I run holleys v cause im lazy and stupid...lol
l...if you are using it as a driver find a guy that knows TQ's and run a 750

My buddy runs an Edelbrock on his 340 formula-s and very rarely has to piss with it compared to my Holley which is very finicky.

get a Summit 750 or 650 vac sec. That way if you ever want to go faster, you have a better performance carb.

THERMO QUADS are trouble free, go up to 850 if you need it, have vacuum secondary s, are NOT sensitive or finicky a lil taxing on the set up, but once its dialed in....it will perform consistently for years and I have run my TQ in my old DUster against the exact same set up in a Demon except the Demon was running a 750 "hooley" I smoked him repeatedly and after the third run he began to BOG upon initial acceleration....his hooley needed to be adjusted ....AGAIN Sorry Hooleys do not impress me at all...they leak and they are finicky and they REQUIRE continuous adjustments...they do make decent power but at what cost...and usually ONLY after they have JUST been adjusted....I know several BEAUTIFUL women who are absolute bitches.... you can get the same beauty from a reasonable women....YOU can get the same power from a reasonable carb too!!

On one of my Barracudas I have used a Holley 800 double pumper and a 850 Thermoquad (plus a few other test carbs). I rarely drive it as it's a handful for just cruising. I currently have the Holley on it as I believe it runs better and is a hair faster.

My other Barracuda which has a moderate 360 and automatic has run a 750 Holley a 800 double pumper Holley and a 850 Thermoquad. It is a more street friendly car and currently runs the Thermoquad. The Thermoquad performs flawlessly. As has been mentioned, they are a bit more involved for initial setup but once it's set up it is just leave it alone and run it.

I think a nice Thermoquad would serve you well.

Edelbrock 600...........

It's nothing wild he said, and he said reliable.........

And the theory that a Holley will always outperform an EB is just not true. Performance is more than just WOT.

Everything I've ever heard says that a Holley will build the wide open power, but will suck gas compared to other carbs.

The Eldybroke carbs give much better mileage, better driveability, and take less to tune right. They don't give up much to the holleys in performance either.

Rochesters are supposedly the penultimate carb for a street car, best mileage, and great wide open performance. (Until you suck the fuel bowls dry)

I don't have the first clue about how a thermoquad'll do, but I've read they're good on gas, and it's hard to argue with 850 cfm of carb that's actually good on gas.

Ive got the 750 vac sec summit carb on my 318, I love it! Ran great right out of the box.

can someone tell me what racing circuit or series uses edelbrock carbs?

every race i have gone too I have seen holley carbs...and since they are racing ..you would think they would have the best performing carbs...

i seen carter avs and thermoquads only cause the car is required to use the OEM carb....

You can get a holley to run well at more than just wide open throttle.

Does 20mpg on a 350hp 360 from a 750dp sound like a good deal? Yeah I thought so! That surely isn't chewing up the fuel.

On ede's you change out the metering rods. Holley, it's a bit more involved with air bleeds and idle feed restrictors. It can be done and not that hard once you figure it out.

I've worked on a bunch of stuff and NEVER seen a similarly sized ede outperfom a holley when properly tuned... EVER! From a HP standpoint the differences were in the 20+ level sometimes.
