Mopar Nationals-Columbus 2011

-
T-minus 2 days now....cant wait.....I hope the rain holds off tho....the Duster does not like rain at all (traction wise)

Ive been up here a few days now and it was real hot... but the rain has knocked alot of the humidity out of the air (for now) the last 2days. Its been raining on/off and later in pm. Awesome day today (sunny mix with clouds) hoping for some great weather for weekend...my 1st Mopar Nats.

Were you going to try to sell Daisy?

Guess she hasn't checked the thread lately, sorry.

Yes we are trying to sell Daisy right now;
http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=153794

Still not sure about going up unless someone wants the car delivered there. I think we will be going to Indy show in Sept. It's closer for us.

If you are interested in Daisy, just PM ABB or myself.
Thanks!

OK, thread returned top original programing!
I hope everyone has a great time and stays safe.
We still might show up at the last min on Sat morning early. Look for us at the car corral with Daisy and FOTO.
John.

Just tried to call event staff.
I called, recording playing only, saying they are still taking car corral at gate for $115 includes 1 pass. Any other questions call the track staff.
I call track to inquire about space available to sell our car. They tell me they are taking car corral from 9AM till 5PM today and after that they can't tell me if anything will be open for us Sat morning or not.
I'm not willing to load Daisy on FOTO's back and drive for 3 hours on the chance of being able to come in to the for sale section.
Too much risk with the fuel involved in a round trip.
Guess we'll be up in Indy next month!

Cooled off last night- actually had to put on a light jacket. Sunny today- no clouds and 82* said tonite 65-70*. Calling for some rain this weekend...
Lets just hope those weather guys are wrong again.

so.. out of curiousity.. what would you consider to be a better Mopar show, where there is that much to see, a swap meet with the variety of stuff found there, all weekend drag racing, not to mention all the local cruising... all for a $65 weekend ticket price? You cant even go to concert these days for that price.. This will be my 4th year, and I have enjoyed the past 3 very much,..dont see this year will be any differant.

Mind if I jump in here. I do like the Nats, but, theres no doubt that Carlisle is a much better show. Unless you are specifically going for the racing, Carlisle is a better show. Carlisle has more vendors, more show cars (but not so many race cars), more variety of show cars, more cars for sale, more special vehicle displays, and more. The Nationals was the greatest Mopar show on the planet (despite all its disorganized faults), but those days have long past. I started going to the Nats in 1985, and went every year for a long time. Now I go to the Nats every few years and go to the Carlisle show every year. I went to the Nats last year and again say Carlisle is the better show.
As a second favorite show, I like Spring Fling in California better than the Nats even though the Nats is a much larger show. For several years, my friends and I gave up the Nats and flew to LA for Spring Fling instead. Thats our plan for 2012. This year the plan is to fly down to Florida for the Gartlits Museum show instead of attending the Nats.

heres some pics from the show. I would say the quantity was down but the quality was up, going to the nats for a couple days ain't no cheap date, so some of the junk stayed home...lucky us. enjoy the pics...theres some members builds in here also

You as well... Ill keep an eye on your process.
Its amazing how many people I met today by wearing my FABO tshirt. Even some of the vendors struck up conversations.
Hopefully more of "us" wear em at these events... nice to meet our fellow bretherin. And the logo is easy to spot.
Amazing event- totally blew me away. Hoping the weather holds out for tomorrow.

So.. My wife and I just got home about 20 minutes ago.. havent really even had time to unpack, havent found my camera yet to upload pics (though I will be doing that), but I did want to share the video I did of my good friends Cordoba during the burnout contest.. It was one of the coolest moments to be at a huge show like the Nats, and have one of your buddies participate in one of the biggest moments.. now.. there were some less than kind comments that I heard right after I finished filming about how the burnout was week, he shoulda kept the rpm's up,.. blah blah.. (this actually kinda pissed me off.. I have always had great things to say about the Mopar people I meet, especially at the Nats.. guess there really are some dickwads no matter where you go) truth is.. he took a lot of time to restore his Cordoba the way he wanted it.. and he has looked forward to driving it to the Nats for the past couple years.. He is proud of the car as he should be.. He just wanted to be able to say he was out on the track at National Trails during the Nats, doing a burnout.. He had a blast... loved it.. but he was very concious of the 3 hour drive home, he had a cut off limit in his head for how high he was gonna let it rev... I dont blame him.. He did what he set out to do.. we had insane amounts of fun.. and the rest of our gang was proud of him.. at the end of the day, thats all that counts...(at least in my opinion) .. Hope you all enjoy it.. anyone who saw his car there chime in... thanks gang

Hey, heck no I dont mind if you jump in lol.. I will be honest, I agree that from the viewpoint of amount of show cars, vendors, and a larger swap meet Carlisle is better.. And I never said that there werent better shows... I have no doubts that there are.. It just seemed to me as if he was being overly judgemental of the Nats in particular.. now I dont know if this was because of some bad experience there, or what the reasoning was.. I was just curious what he though was better...

I have been to Carlisle for their Mopar show several times.. and I do enjoy it.. but my wife and I share this hobby together.. it has been a common piece of our relationship we have shared since we first started dating and went to our first car show together, and later when we started the 'bills buggy' project... For my dollar, I need a show like this to be appealing for both.. If I just want to comb a swap meet, or look at virtually thousands of cars all pristine with mirrors under them and all that Carlisle would be where I would go, hands down.. way more of that there.. but..Shes not into swap meets.. parts and all that are my department lol.. She walks a couple rows with me, but its not her thing... this is OUR vacation, so it needs to be something both of us love...

My original point was (at least for us) the Nats is the best all around show for the buck.. there is still a respectable swap meet, plenty of beautiful show cars, manufactuars midway so you can see the latest greatest stuff... cars constantly crusing all around the fairgrounds, and drag racing.. plenty of it, and exciting .. my wife loves the races, so this works out fantastic... then theres the super cruise in Heath.. this is where we (along with our gang of Mopar friends we hang with) like to go every year.. Maybe someday we will do a differant show.. but it has to have a variety like the Nats..

Again.. this was just my .02 lol

My point was simple! The prices for everything at that show - enterance fees, car coral, vender spots- are the highest priced of all the large Mopar shows that I have seen. The organization is a joke, and the guy running it does not care because he still gets his money. I have been there when the port o plots were just nasty(and I'm not that picky), the gates for venders got opened when the felt like it, the people that were parking cars, venders. etc, had no clue, it had rained and the vender area was a swamp and they did nothing to help, etc, etc! The only actual good things about the Nats were the after show activities! :thumbdow:

That is why I doubt I will ever give them another dollar of my cash! ans yes, I used to go every year too. I finally had enough. If I was closer I would go get a hotel in Heath and just hang out! :burnout:

and I didn't even mention the golf carts! lol

If you are not handicapped, and want to ride a golf cart.......GO GOLFING!! :violent1:

Well we all have our own opinions of things I guess, I love it there, and dont feel the same way about it.. but hey, its all cool.. I wasnt bashing you (I do hope you know that) just didnt understand why you seemed to bash the Nats that way.. now I know LOL .. However, I will TOTALLY agree with you about the golf cart thing.. I mean, if your handicapped or if you need to haul heavy, hard to carry stuff back to you vehicle, I can understand it.. but holy heck, airports dont use as many golf carts as the Nats does... LOL

Speaking of dickwads at the Nats did you happen to see the guy's sign on his 70' Road Runner about his Air Grabber assembly being stolen off his car in broad daylight on Friday afternoon along with two others attendee's air cleaners being stolen the same day....Thats B.S. They'll probally be on
E-Bay next week. I agree on the golf cart issue(and scooter bikes) F-ing walk like everyone else. also just my .02.....but overall I love the Nats sure there issues and improvments could be made but someone with alot more money than I have, should start there own show. also I see $150K
motorhomes that have to leave the grounds cause they can't stay overnight...WTF

76Orange I noticed on the website that there was no overnite camping, I really do not understand the logic behind that I have seen other show were people from far away bring there motorhomes and camp out the whole weekend. The good thing about that is all you have to do is drive your car to next to your motorhome and leave it there all night instead of loading it up or worrying about something getting stolen.

As for the people stealing air cleaners during the middle of the day that is just sad.

We have a good guy show here now twice a year and at the last one my wife and I almost got hit by a golf cart. I had to remind the person to be careful because here in Texas you never know who is carrying a GUN.

I figured I would add to the ongoing collection of .02

That is it right there. They have been doing this show forever! They don't make any effort on the improvements because they don't care! If they made the improvements it would cut into there profit...and we can't have that can we??

The stealing of the hoods and air cleaners is totally screwed up! Was that from hotels or the track??
