2015 SRT Barracuda- who is saving up for one?

The rumors are still in flux on this car but it looks like it's happening!

What do you guys know about this car? Is anyone confident that it will live up to the Barracuda nameplate?

Is anyone considering buying one based on what they know?

I'm excited about it....I picked up a 2011 Mustang GT with the 5.0 Coyote motor and I absolutely love it. It's almost exactly the same size as my Dart Sport (though a little bit taller and quite a bit heavier). It handles amazingly (mine has the uprated brakes and suspension tuning) and pulls like a freight train right up to 7,000 RPM. It feels like a 12 second car...which it supposedly is (though I have yet to take mine to the strip) :)

The biggest problem with the car is that I'm not really a Mustang guy. One of the fun parts about owning an enthusiast car is identifying with the brand...and the Mustang falls short here for me. Sadly, the Challenger is WAY too big (and 500 lbs heavier than the Mustang) so it wasn't an appealing option eventhough it looks great... and I didn't really even look at the Camaro since it's also a landwhale.

I'd consider trading in the Mustang if the Barracuda shapes up to be worthy of the name.

What do you guys think?

I'll wait until they have actual photographs, not some photoshop crap.

If Dodge is going to copy the chebby camaro and call it a Barracuda I will croak. That blue car looks like crap, just like the new camaros do. Wouldn't put it past the itialians or the GM obomites though.

Plymouth is dead. Gone. Let the Barracuda rest - please do not drag the name through the mud like they did with that fiat "dart".

Instead that should put real drivetrain components in the Challenger that will handle 9+ PSI boost from a supercharger cause those 4400 pound cars will run 7.18 1/8's and still drive 2000 miles to a Chally get together. I know cause my stroker fish did all it could do to beat one at the local track. The guy has had to upgrade his rear end, drive shaft, tranny all because the stock stuff busted. Chrystler needs to step into the HP wars that Ferd and chebby are dominating (mostly ferd).

Hell, I am even comtemplating getting a older Mustang just cause they are so damn fast. Can't beat 'em...
 
Do yourself a favor. Keep the mustang.

No one even knows if there will be a Cuda. And god only knows how fiat will screw it up. Even if it is nice I would wait a few years for the bugs to be worked out of them.

I don't care what they do anymore. It will still be an overpriced pig anyway.
 
The 4 cylinder will likely be an engine option (and the next gen of the Camaro and Mustang will almost certainly also have this option too!)...the strongest Barracuda rumors also suggest that the car will be available with the newly revised 6.2L version of the Hemi, likely with a supercharger.

I agree with the negative feelings about the concept drawings from C&D...and I strongly suspect that the car will be more conventional looking than what we see there...though they have said all along that it won't be entirely retro.

The problem for me is that the 1964 Barracudas are beautiful, the 1967 styles are breath taking and the 1970 style is flat-out one of the best looking thing ever to roll on four wheels. They're almost certainly not going to touch the beauty of the original designs... so we're almost guaranteed disappointment there.

The new Challenger cannot even compete with the top of the line Mustang. The 392 Hemi in the SRT8 only puts out 470/480 horsepower advertised. If I know Chrysler (and I do) the street versions will be 20-30 hp less than advertised. My son has a 2011 Shelby Mustang GT 500 and it has 550 horsepower stock! The new 2013's are up to 662 horsepower!!! Dodge is 180 horsepower behind, with no signs of catching up. If you call and ask them what is coming out, they reply that, "it is proprietary..." Oh yeah, I'll "prorietary" you right to the Ford showroom with that attitude... When are they going to get a clue???

And I don't appreciate the past history I've had with Chrysler fighting over warranty coverages. I'm sick of fighting with them over warranty coverage when they are making sub-standard cars/components. Then they blame me for the problems. Then I come up with facts to prove it's them, then they try to compromise... No, fix my f-ckin car and don't expect me to pay for your bad dicisions/shortcuts...

I bought a '04 Mustang Mach 1 because at the time Dodge still wasn't putting their Hemi in a 2 door! In any case I am happier with the Mach 1, than with the 2 door Mopar finally did drop the Hemi in. As you said, the Challenger is just too big.

Yes, I am VERY interested in a new Hemi 'cuda:D
 
Well, you can rest assure it won't look like that by the time it get's to production! Save my pennies for it no sir. I would rather take the $$$$ they are gonna charge for a new one and buy an R/T Challenger before they discontinue it and buy '70 Challenger, Probably be about the same amount they want for a new SRT Cuda.

94 mustang $3000. Built 408/416 ferd motor - maybe $5K. Glide, 3500 converter - under 7 sec car. Hard to beat ya gotta admit. Just too damn many out there which is why we like our A bodies. Just cost a lot more but there are not 1000 or them running around town.
 
Funny how everyone is all about the highest engine options and use that as a measuring stick to other cars.I have driven a mustang cobra with 500 rwhp,which has a supercharger and it wasn't as impressive "to me" as you might think,why because you have to get into it to get the power and if you stay in it all the time to feel that then it "WILL" explode on you.The engine itself is weak in power but the supercharger gives it that extra boost.Anyway chrysler has to build a car for everybody not just one segmant.They don't have the luxury to fail.Chrysler can't build a car just to satisfy only drag racers.So if they offered any hemi 5.7-6.4 and got a durable turbo or supercharger worked out then they would be up there with the other cars.Yes ford offers a high powered model but all I see EVERY DAY is teenage girls driving thier v6 mustangs to school,very few gts' let alone cobras or gt 500s'.
 
The way the New Challenger competes is by being the Best looking car on the road.
Chebbie & Ferd just didn't quite get the look right the way Dodge did.
