is this true about a 350 sbc vs a sbm

this guy come in to the store last night asking about a mini spool for a 8.5 gm axle. so i hop on my oriellys computer and i cant find one, i call my tech and while waiting for tech support i ask the guy y? he said to lock up the rear end and looks at me like im a dumbass, and i asked him y a mini style spool? and he says doesnt wanna deal with c clips and that he spent so much money on chromoly axles cause his chebbie makes 475 at the rear wheels blah blah. now ive heard his truck and it does NOT sound like its got 500 or more. And then he had to rub it in cause he seen my demon hat, and says my chebbie got more ponies than any mopar can make and last longer and this is when i got pissed cause im pretty sure mr pettyblue has a 408 dart that makes 500 easy, and 7172 duster has a 340 with 600 if i recall, among others here who make as much or more.

now my question is, is this guy right? will a 350 last longer with 500 hores than a sbm? or is this guys head shoved so fat up his own *** that he can see his tonsils?
 
Longevity on any motor depends on who assembles it PERIOD. Start with a good old nickle block, a steel crank good rods and forged pistons. Balance the assembly and bluprint it and make sure the tollerances are correct. I have seen too many so called engine builders who shouldnt be engine builders.

For that guy to make a statement like that, he has his head up his ***, and that mini spool will be in pieces all over the street if he ever hooks it up.
 
that was my thought exactly, and he cant get the mini spool cause they discontinnued it for 30 spline axles. which made me feel better when i told him and he dropped his jaw
 
I dont even argue with dipwads like this. Let them think they are all that, then wax them and watch them cry at the track
 
Yep they are all 10 second cars till you get them to the track, then reality sets in real fast.
 
Just tell him next time . Really ? ............ I know some slant 6s that would smoke it . Thay just would just walk away at that point .
 
Why is it even important? Just sell him the mini spool and laugh when you drive by him broken on the street.
 
Everybody and their brother has a chevy.....or a ford. Only the BEST can say they have a Mopar. Like RRR said, take his money and let buttwad eat silence. Only a bigger idiot argues with an idiot. Just saying.

Exactly!!!

By the way, he can install the "C clip" eliminators, Mini Spool or not...:banghead:. Once you get into the 400/500hp range, and the resulting cam requirements, the valvetrain is really where I see the differences.....Mopar, hands down in that range...
 
Should'a told him to kiss your *** and keep his fanboy BS to himself, and you'll see him soon when his engine falls apart LOL
 
Chevy = Rod eater!
I've seen equally built Chevy and Mopar engines and the Chevys always fail. Just my experience. I also noticed, Chevy owners talk the most $hit and can't back it up :)
 
i wasnt arguing with the guy, i kept to myself cause of my job, but ive never built engines, and i just wanted to know. but iagree with you guys, every body and their dead grandma has a chevy, and i have the only power wagon in the area let alone the onl REAL macho edition in the area. i just figured id ask cause im sure some of you guys wether you want to admit it or not have played around with other engines and such. i actually like fords, and exotics to apoint. but i dont like chebbies at all.

If he really wants to know the difference, tell m to look at a chebbie 350 rod compared to a 318 rod. lol

Versus a cast Chevy rod, yes!

Other then the length, I'm not sure a stock forged (Pink) rod with a equivalent bolt would be a detriment @ very near 7k or so. I've run both up to that range, and "fortunately" never had a failure with either.

OP, take into account the person your dealing with, and not necessarily the engine he's running. All the older style iron V8's have pros and cons. If he want's to be immature and brag about something he really knows nothing about...so be it. That's the kind of person you can just sell more parts to. :thumbrig:
 
dollar for dollar the 350 will make more power and rev higher than a small mopar.
which motor lasts, only the builder knows. lol

well of course dollar for dollar the sbc will make more ponies. considering that sbc eddy intake is 150 and the exact one but for a mopar is damn near 300, thats sadly a given when youre a mopar fan, that and everything is either special ordered or hard to find and you gotta dig forever *coughs* my exhaust pipes *coughs* lol, but i can still look around and not have the truck that a guy down the road has!
