New Motor for the Cuda - MRL Performance 340 Stroker

-
I realize that it is possible to have an engine rebuilt cheaper than what MRL charges to sell a completed stroker engine. But when you buy from Mike you don't have to supply a core motor. And you are going to get much higher quality components than you would in a budget build.

One of the reasons I chose Mike is because of his expertise and reputation. Anyone that's taken the time to talk with him will confirm that he does not 'hard sell' you or bullshit you. But he does answer all questions asked - and it is easy to tell that he knows what he's talking about.

I liked the fact that he has made the effort to develop streetable MOPAR engine combinations that produce a lot of power and will hold together. I didn't want a 500 horsepower hand grenade. Over the years I'd seen guys that specialized in small block Chevies that seemed to know every trick in the book for squeezing power out of them. I needed someone like that who specialized in Chrysler power.

There ya go! Spend YOUR money where YOU feel comfortable. I would have no problem buying an engine from Mike or a couple of other builders if I didn't have someone close that I trusted.

Let the haters hate.

Mike runs a business in AMERICA. I think it's a great thing that people who can afford his services use him. I will probably never be able to do it, so I have to make do with what I have. A lot of us do. But that doesn't mean that Mike does not offer a quality product. For those who use his services, that decision is right for THEM, just like the decision to build your own is right for you.

Guy's one negative comment and 10 responses to beat him down,If you let it go those guy's will disappear,OP NEVER said this was for his wife to begin with and 500hp from a 340 Mike should be able to do with his eyes closed,Great block to start with. keep us posted-Thanks Steve

Mike suggested the cam I also have Hughes 1.6 rockers.
Mine is a 030 360 with kb 107's eagle I beam rods
Balanced , air gap intake 750 demon carb , and TTI's
Have not had time to put it together .
Maybe in the next few weeks ?
Best of luck !!

That should make an easy 550-560 HP and at least 490 ft/lbs. That is a VERY nice combination that I hope to build soon. Excellent street race engine that should wind up to 7000-7500 rpm easy. What lifters are you running? J.Rob

Sounds like you made a good choice and I love the stance of your Cuda!

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm running a solid flat tappet cam due to the budget. Mike thinks the motor should make around 540 HP if the heads flow like the flow charts showed.

I'm pumped and can't Waite to get it in the car!

If the heads flow well, I would bet you see 500-530hp.

Heads flowed the following numbers:

.500 - 275/215
.550 - 284/224
.600 - 292/230
.700 - 294/244

Nice looking car. I look forward to seeing what kind of numbers your motor pulls. Mike builds strong engines.

Sounds cool. I'm sure you will be happy.

He built my 340 that is stock stroke and street friendly that makes 470hp and 455 lb-ft. It's pretty sleepy sounding...lights the tires up (okay so they are 225's, but sticky ones) from a 20 mph roll with a 4-speed and 3.23's. Borderline insanity. You could easily live with that engine on a daily basis too.

Did you supply the block? That's about 382ci with the .060 over bore correct?

Very cool Duster, I'm sure we may see each other at the Woodward cruise.

One day I'd like to see a list of FABO members that are running MRL engines.

cant wait to see results, I love dynos, I will guess 525hp 485 tq , but hope makes more for ya:blob:

JMO, but don't get too caught up in the numbers. A dyno is just a tool...one of many tools used for testing/tuning. I have seen my fair share of "600+ horsepower" cars that can only run 12's if you know what I mean.

Understood, I'm sure I will have a lot of time dialing in the rest of the drive train and suspension to make it all work.

But that's what makes it interesting.

How long have you been dialing in the notchback? Bet you were ecstatic every time you picked up a tenth.

I've had mine for 21 years...and yeah, I get stupid excited every time I find a way to pickup a few hundredths, let alone a tenth, LOL! The car made the transition from a street/strip car to a strip/street car about 10-13 years ago. That was when I started really chipping away at the ET. For what its worth, when I built the current motor back in 2009 the car ran high 11.30's in the 1/4. With the same engine and a LOT of tuning/tweeking/trying different stuff, 5 years later the car runs 10.50's. With that said, don't worry about the dyno number...just looking at the head flow (I just saw it before writing this), it should run REALLY well.:thumleft:

flyfish has it right
...big numbers on paper do not guarantee of a quick car.
