Is that clear tube coming out of the firewall by the dipstick for the A/C? It looks like bare metal around the hole. You're going to want to paint that or it will rust. A grommet might be a good idea too.

Yep, its AC vent tube. I had to move the hole from the OEM location, for the CAA unit. I already have the grommet for it, its on my "small stuff to do" list. I'm not really a big fan of clear hose, so I'll probably change it to black with a 90 degree bend. Thanks Darren

Today I put the rotors, calipers, hoses, and torsion bars, and wheels on. I'm waiting on the banjo bolts for the brake hose to caliper connection, should be here tomorrow. Well for the first time in many years, the Dart is on all fours, albeit, the torsions bars are all the way down. I wanted to see what it looked like and check clearances before I raise it up. The TTI headers have plenty of ground clearance and so does the oil pan. I had lengthened the wheel well openings 2.5" so I wanted to check the openings for front and rear of tire clearance with it low, and again were good. I'll raise it back up this weekend, and continue on. Pretty good day....

Hey Speed,
Glad you like it so far. I have another trick item thats not quite ready, but very soon, I think you and Evil will appreciate it. For the first time in many years, I do believe there is a iight at the end of the tunnel.

it's got to be a great feeling having her sit on all fours again, I know if it were me it would be a major milestone and sense of accomplishment.
Even though I don't comment all the time I look forward to your posts every week to see what you have finished and crossed off the to do list.
Keep up the great work and attention to detail.

Are those 14" or 15" wheels? I like it that low in the front. The rear would have to come down a little though.

Thanks BT,
You alway have the right words of encouragement, and I really appreciate it!

Hey Darren,
They are 15" X 7". The front will most definatley have to go up, no room to turn. I was merely checking front clearance since I had lengthened the wheel wells by 2.5". Raising the front will intern make the back look lower or at least more level. If you go to my 2fine69s page you'll get an idea of what it will look like, since I have already put this combination of wheels on the car before I tore it down. The front will probably be lower with the V-8, but I now have 892/893 torsion bars in place of the six cylinder ones. The rear will also be lower once I put interior, bumpers etc. on the car.

I may have missed this (as I haven't read the entire thread yet... I was enjoying the **** pics first) but do you intend to go with the tail stripe?

This car is beautiful. All the fine details give me some great ideas as mine is going to be going through body restoration for the next several months. I was wondering if you are running 15"x7" wheels on all four corners and what tire combination you are going to run? I want to run 15x7's all the way around on my 69 when it is done.

Yes, they are all 15 X 7 and the tires are 225-70-15. Now having said that, I did lengthen the front and rear wheel wells by 2.5". If you go to my 2fine69s page, you'll get and idea of what it will look like with out stretching them. They will fit the stock openings, but it is super close, front and rear, and could cause a serious problem on the front especially. Hope this helps.

Would something like a 15x6 alleviate some of the concern with the front? What problems do you think would arise in the front with a stock opening and 15x7? By the way, my car is going to stay a front wheel drum brake car for the time being (if that makes any difference).

The width is not as much an issue as the 15". If you go with 15's on the front, and back up with the wheel turned, it will hit the lower corner part of the fender opening. It happened to me, and it pulled the fender out. I had to make adjustable lower fender support rods and adjust them out far enough so the fender would not contact the tire. The factory wheel well is actually tilted in at the bottom lower front wheel opening. 15 X 6" may help a little, but a very narrow tire will be needed also. All these issues are what drove me to lengthen the wheel wells.

Sorry to jump into your conversation but....
Its the tire diameter and width that is a concern- not necessarily the rim diameter. Rim offset would be an equal concern to tire diameter.
If you are hitting the front fender edge- then you have too much tire diameter. If you are rubbing the inner fender at full lock- then you have either too wide a tire or too much back set.

Thanks for clarifying this. For VADart, he wanted to know if my sizes would work with his car if he used 1" narrower wheel, the fact still remains that if he uses the same combination of tire and rim I have, it will cause a problem unless you are extremely careful and spread the lower front fender out. VA, I'm not sure about the OD width of drum brake vs disc brake, maybe another member could shed some light on this. If the tracking is narrower the they may work for you.

I went with a 15x6 in the front but had to use a 195/60R15 tire to have clearance. The fronts are 7.9" wide within a 8.5" space with a diameter of 24.2". The rears are 15x8 with 225/60R15 tires. The rears are 10.5" wide within a 11" space with a diameter of 25.8. I like this combo because it gives just the right amount of rake. The biggest problem I had was the backspacing on the rims as they both had to be maxed to fit.

Here is a link to a tire chart that will give you width and diameter. It is the same place that made my rims for me (Vintage V). They really look great on my car.

I am really looking forward to the GT trim, red stripe magnums and the black roof. I think this will look amazing with your paint. The hood and 6pac just put it over the top.
Do you think you will make it to Carlisle?
