273 engine, I got the head bolts soaking in kerosene to make sure they are clean. is that good for lube for them too, or should I blow them dry and wipe a little oil on bottom of bolt? store bought lube??? thanks

Engine oil or assemble lube. Torque spec is for engine oil from 66 manual.

X2 on the engine oil.
I actually believe that assembly lube may be a little more "slippery", which may alter the torque requirements.

Don't forget to dab a little under the heads of the bolts a well.

I would do it "dry".

Too much lube can cause the bolts to be over-torqued and then fatigue early...

The assembly plants use the coatings that the bolts came with only, no other lube...

95 ft/lbs for a 340/360 with oil as lube. Dry is 15-25 higher according to another page..and we all know the internet don't lie....so I feel better knowing all these years of torquing head bolt that were oiled to 85-95 ft/lbs was not in vain.

Just an old fashion squirt oil can and some motor oil. Don't dip the bolts in oil because it can puddle at the bottom of the bolt holes and as we know....oil doesn't compress. It can give you inaccurate torque readings. Don't install them dry. They need some lubrication. tmm

The proper answer....

Even 3 in 1 oil would work to lubricate the threads. You never want a pool of oil in the bottom of a closed/blind hole.
