Just an FYI - Borgeson has come out with an updated version of their fast ratio steering box. Some key features of the new box - less expensive (about 100) and smaller than the previous unit. Unfortunately, they are only offering in small sector. I will be mocking up shortly and posting pictures.

Is it the same 14.5 ratio? I'll be very interested to see if they fixed the steering shaft angle issue I have on mine....

Same 14:1 ratio. This one actually has some angle built into it. I'm assuming its for the case to clear the K. I'm going to mock it up with my coupler to see if there are any binding issues with the angle (I doubt it).

so what did they do to save the $100?

i would love to try one on these in jamies dart but i'm scared of being stuck with an expensive paper weight. that one poor bastard on moparts had to buy a second one then send his poor fitting first one back. who knows if he will ever see a refund for the first box. seemed like piss poor customer service on a part that obviously has fitment issues.

did they address any of the issues they were having with the old boxes??

mainly some being crooked and the pitman arms not going on far enough??

I believe its based on one of their Mustang boxes. I imagine the production cost was to high for them to be profitable, but I'm guessing. The angularity issue, was on the boxes pictured and disturbed the customers which I understand. However, nobody ever complained that it didn't work properly. My guess is the coupler can take up some angle without a problem. Look at the crazy angles on new cars..

the coupler issue looks easy to solve. Replace it with a Borgason or Flaming River vibration dampner/universal combo.

it seemed to not work properly in Sxrxrnr's car if ya read through that thread i posted..

I have now ordered and paid up for a replacement steering box. 750 dollars plus shipping. Will post outcome once installed.
poor bastard is out another $750. shame he never updated the thread.

I tried my best to satisfy this customer with literally hours of discussion on the phone and email. Bottom line is I believe the box was never centered properly causing his tie rod issue. I was also never given pictures of this either. Be careful commenting when YOU don't know the facts.

Problem with that is any normal flex in the frame transmits directly to the steering column upper bearing. It was never designed for that kind of load.

oh brother...
all i said was that i would like to try one of those boxes but multiple guys having that horrible angle issue and that guys post keeps me from doing so. that guy had a problem after installing the box is the only fact mentioned. you saying he didn't have a problem?

The problem with the shaft angle isn't so much the coupler, as much as it is Header fitment is made almost impossible...

Would not using a vib dampner/universal combo take the load off the upper bearing by leaving the shaft pretty much standing alone to spin and the universal removing any bind that I am seeing in the stock factory vibration (rag) joint?

Of course, the lower bearing would need to be functioning properly to support the shaft coming thru the fire wall

Just spitball' here. I truly hold the highest regard for your suspension expertise.

In theory you think it would. However, their vibration reducing joint is virually a solid connection, which still loads the upper bearing. I still like the factory coupler as it allows the sliding motion.

I just ordered new box from summit.
They didnt have it on web page but they special ordered it, cost 529$ least that what they said on live chat. old one was 711$ on Summit. Thats some good customer service:)

I can post pictures of it soon as i get it, will take some time, probably after new year.
Takes about two weeks to get parts shipped to Finland.

I will be modifying my stock pot coupler to fit box, that thing has zero slop.
my stock ps box on the other hand has way too much slop.

Just finished installing new borgeson box.

Fit was really good and no weird angles on pitman arm or steering.

I used my stock pot coupler, modified it little bit.

Haven,t done longer test runs just drove around farm, on snow and ice:)
Steering feels really good no slop at all, bit harder to turn than new car.

Only thing that i noticed was small hydraulic noise coming from box, brobably because leak on hose or because i have done pump it down mod on my power steering pump and pressure is way low.

Otherwise wery easy to install and doog fitment.
with old ps box i had to bang my cheap hooker headders, now i can put finger between headders and box.

I Will try post some pictures soon

I installed mine last year. It had developed a leak at the pitman shaft a month or so later and Borgenson fixed the seal no cost to me. I do still love the box and you cant beat the lighter weight and fast ratio.

Summit had a misprint on the price at that time. PM if anyone is interested I can match their new price, supply the coupler and fittings.

There are some crappy pictures.

Will try to post more when all in place.

Tried to take pictures about size difirences, fitment, and my modified coupler pot.

Steering saft alingment is way better than in that picture, on that one steering saft is just hanging there.

hi guys
been reading your posts on the borgerson stering box .my 68 cuda has a 440 rb engine .the only header that will fit the rb engine for power stering is the surmacher .the pipe size is 1.5/8 to small once you go past 500hp.want to put 2in tti,s on can I do that if I use the borgeson box.
thanks in advance.
:burnout:

I just did this on a 69 Dart. It had Schumachers to start, then bought TTIs and attempted the new box install. Not a chance. We made custom headers for this application.

Well winter is over here and my Duster is out of garage.

About this new borgeson box........

Its suberb!!! worth every €.
Car handles like a new car, feels same as rack and pinion.

I even dont have fancy tubular control arms etc. Just borgeson box, helwig swaybar at front and moog offset bushings for UCA.

This has been far greatest upgrade on my car.

Only mods needed were new hoses for the box and modifying pot coupler.
It took me longer to get old box out than to install my new box. Fits really well and i have way more room on drivers side of engine bay. Clears even cheap hooker headders by 1''
