My HDK install thread.

While getting my engine ready to go back in I had an "oh, ****!!!!!" moment. Broke off a brass plug in the rear oil galley. Had a brief panic then got my easy out workin on it. Thank goodness that it came out.

got the engine fully dressed and ready to go back in. just have to get the trans cleaned up so i can install it with the engine.

then i started installing some of the other pieces i got back from powder coat. here is my brake prop. valve mount installed on the driver side inner sub frame connector

then i got my drive shaft loop back in. notice how it bolts to both frame connectors and has holes for the inner seat bracket bolts. ties the frame, floor and seats all together.

got the trans cleaned up and painted last night. I smoothed out the heavy casting flash on the housing and cut off the un used mounting tabs for linkage. they were just ugly and not needed.

Beautiful! Everything updated, clean and new!

what im wondering is what rear offest are you running to fit a 17x11 and a 345 tire in the back?

Damn dude is gonna beat me again at sunbust this year.... :banghead:

Sweet stuff!

I like it on how people say to build a 360 instead of a 383. Something about a short stroke and big valve heads to make power and rpm.

I think that suspension looks bad *** in the satin grey. The black goes great with your green though.

im pretty sure that my 383 weighs less then a factory steel headed 360 now. only cast iron part left is the bock. I have the enitre underside done in black so i decided to stay uniform. I wish you could see more of the suspension because it is pretty impressive looking.

here are some close ups of how the engine mounts orientate.

********SIDE NOTE*********

every engine is going to be cast slightly different. when bolting up the engine mounts to the block, look for any gaps between the mounts and the ears on the block. I had to add one washer on the driver side between the mount and the block. you dont want to force the mounts to close up the gap. it puts stress on the block ears and my dads car actually cracked an ear off the block from this with a set of direct connection mounts.

Here are a couple pics of my new found header clearance.

Then i tackled the feared and revered TTI under chassis header install.................

yawn, jacked up the car and slid them in from below. took me 15 min. for both sides.

Guys, i cant put into words how open and spacious the engine bay is now. I can reach everything! nothing is pinched, trapped or hard to get too.

Just let it soak in........ BIG BLOCK HEADERS INTO AN A-BODY IN 15 MINUTES! are you f#*king kidding me?

Looking great. Having all that room is great isn't it! :thumblef:

I know that the (easily removable) steering shaft and starter still have to go in there but what
a revelation. No more dark recesses to loose your tools in.

You could throw a sack full of canned hams down that hole and it wouldn't touch anywhere!

Any pics with the headers installed yet? Are you running electric fans or a mechanical fan attached to the water pump?

headers are in and have a TON of room all around. i will get pics tonight. I have duel electric fans on a home made shroud.

here are the header install pics i promised. I have room around everything. the lowest point under the car is my trans pan now.

Wow! The room you have now.......is just obscene. LOL. Great job. Been following this, keep up the good work!
