Dissapointing performance

Holy Crap ! I cant believe I just browsed through this thread. As usual great wrenches such as rusty and the like jump in and the fixes are usually right there in the first page. Op said the experts he talked to said it was a great combo. LOL. To dusterguy. Get a bigger carb. get a bigger exhaust and get the right convertor and right gears. If you arent gonna do that then oh well.

I will post compression results tomorrow. First thing that I looked was is the throttle opening all the way and it was. I need to email PTC and ask do they make high stall converters for lockup trans and what prize.

Fuel mileage doesnt really matter to me but often I drive long trips on higway and 3.23 gears are good for that. Now engine doest scream too bad at 60 miles per hour. I understand that if I want performance these gears need to go.
Well what did you get on the comp test ??

:bs_flag:Sorry, had to. :realcrazy: :popcorn:and last but not least:drama:

If everything that was mention by the usual suspects has been done and checked....then it's the heads, take them off and have them flowed and checked out to see if they are junk or falsely advertised.

I recommend no one else reply to the op and this thread be closed till the op takes the heads to be checked out.

If you did not reads all of post 153, or
If you did not understand all of it, or
If I used words too big for you, then
ask for clarification.
See I care if my wife feeds me food that could cause me to become constipated. Constipation is to be avoided at all costs.
And I care about the salvation of my kids.
Just about everything else is water off a ducks back.
People brought me their stuff to work on for over 20years, and they would wait weeks to months for me to get to it. I always had between 100 and say 500 hours of work ahead of me.I can fix just about anything in my field. I have fixed stuff that many other mechanics had already tried and gave up. Some of the reasons I am successful, is cuz I am patient, persistent, and I formulate plans.I set things in order and then I follow the plan.
You, on the other hand have no patience, no persistence, and no plan. When you get done listening to chaos, perhaps you will revisit some of the posts, presented in this thread. If not, I don't care anymore.....

Black plug is showing you what your combustion efficiency is looking like.... sooty plugs whether it be exhaust reversion or pig rich needs to be looked at. If it's that rich you could be washing the rings of oil. Have full compression #'s yet? About these home made headers, how long the primaries? Short tubes that dump into a 2.5 log? How about a pic?
There is other reason too what can cause black plugs, look and read link about spark plug basics what I posted before. It it written by NGK and there is good info even if you think you know everything already.

I know from fuel mileage and exhaust gas smell (yes Im that hard core tuner) that its not pig rich. I have also setted fuel screws to optimal settings. Carb is almost new and has worked before so I dont think It can be pig rich.

And if you know how engine works with big camshaft youd know that there is always exhaust reversion in low rpm/idle. Always.

Iv been bussy at work I dont have compression test done yet. The shorty headers suck for performance I know. You dont need to tell it to me after I show the pics to you. They are like normal headers but short primaries maybe 10" and collector is 2.5" and it tapers fast to 2"

When dealing with complex and important things its good to hear opinions from multiple people. Not just one or two. Then I can make my own conclusion based on my own and other peoples opinions. I dont know any of you personally, you are all nobody to me. Thats why I wanted to hear multiple opinions on what causes this low power problem. Answers just happened to be in first page, its easy to say afterwards.

how many doctors do you go to when you're sick? its not rocket science, these guys(who have helped me directly or indirectly) many times are all telling you the same thing. this thread is like an accident on the side of the road, you just cant help but look!

This article? The one that says your plugs should burn off once reaching operating temp! Maybe you should read and understand the WHOLE THING instead of picking out one line to try and justify your problem because the answer is in there.

Exactly. And if you drive at low speed and/ or short trips, then your plug doesnt reach the normal operatin temperature. What happens? The plug turns black. Did you read the whole article? There its clearly been written.

Go to your car, take your finger and put it in exhaust pipe. After that look at it and see it turned black. Yes its carbon. Yes its normal even in engine that is perfectly in good shape.

You must drive 100 yards at a time, because my junk is up to temp a mile down the road.

Well doctor is doctor. But I dont know who here is expert and who isnt. And engine is complex thing in deepest level. Sure basics are easy to understand.

i think i better run down to the lickme store and stock up on beer in my demon that fellow fabo members have helped me to get runnin real sweet, definitely not disappointed in its performance!hows them compression numbers comin along?

Im glad that your Demon works as it should be. Im not stop working on my car until Im at same point. I dont know when I find time to do compression test. Maybe In weekend.
Here is pic of my header

My cam shaft is large enough that i had to drill 3/32 hole in each butterfly, so that the fuel mixture screws would respond when i adjusted them.
I can go out there Right Now and there will be no black soot in the tail pipe, Light gray!
