This is a 273. This engine is a rebuidable core. I have not had it any farther apart than what you see in the photos. The engine has adjustable rockers (I would assume it has solid lifters, but am not sure). The pistons have 4 valve pockets which would point to it not being a hipo engine. The motor rolls over with a roll over bar and has compression. It has a four barrel intake with a Carter 4295s. The oil pan is chrome (old and rusty) The date code on the block is 5-4-67. The casting numbers on the part number on the heads are 2658920-1. The date code looks like it is 1-3-5. The engine does appear to have some sludge in the oil pan and a little on the top end, but overall not bad.
I am asking $365 obo. Plus shipping
I can put it on a pallet and take it to a shipper or it can be picked up.

This engine is being sold as a rebuidable core AS IS. I have not had this engine any further apart than you see in the photos and I do not know anything about its history. You are going to get what you get

How are you identifying it as a Commando engine???

Probably from the 4bbl carb and intake, and the adjustable rockers. It looks a bit cobbled up what with the blue timing cover and plain-jane 1965 valve covers. Need to see the pistons to verify Commando status.

I believe it is a commando engine based on the intake and rockers. I cannot say for certain what pistons it has in it, so I cannot guarantee that it is a commando engine.

The 64-67 2 bbl 273's came with adjustable rockers as well, which is why you need to see piston tops to verify if its a Commando or not.

Well it is a core so it could become a commando engine, just bore it and buy the correct pistons, If you can find them, and a performance cam, and a set of commando valve covers.

Right now it is just a 273 core, if you cant reuse the pistons then it doesn't really matter if it is or was a commando motor.

Any core could become anything. These little dudes held up well and rarely need to be bored.
Original 273 commando regardless of condition is much more desireable than 273 2bbl engine which is most likely what this is without a piston pic. but add clearly states he is not sure and has obo.

I borrowed a bore scope from a gentleman at work and pulled a plug, it looks like there are 4 valve pockets, which from what I have seen online and what I have read in this thread, would point to it not being a commando engine. I have updated the title and price accordingly. Thank you all for your help.
