hey guys going to swap my rebuilt 318 1971 block camshaft was looking at a 260 duration at 440 lift comp cams it will be for my 67 barracuda it has 600 cfm eddy carb eddy lb4d intake with 1973 340 exhaust manifolds in the rear I have 294 or 293 but I'm going to swap it for 355 ratio. Would this be streetable driver? And am I in the right direction.

Which cam? Manufacturer, part number or grind number and/ or specs?
Generally speaking, it will work ok.

That must be stock replacement? No problem with street , seems mild to me. You should be able to go up to around 470 lift without worrying about head work (HD springs, retainer clips, etc)

It has a rv cam in it currently specs I don't know just want to upgrade

Would it have a notice able idle?

Yes, with that 110 LSA, it will have a notable burble to the sound. Your new manifolds and a dual exhasut wil do a lot for the performance and sound even with a smaller cam.

(I personally would go with less duration to keep the low RPM torque as much as I could, and a 112-114 LSA for better fuel economy, but your 3.55 rear gear change will help compensate.)

What duration were you thinking 258?

Dang all I was told was it was a rv home grind. What would you recommend
Yep that's a tough one if you don't know what you have in there already. "RV cam" is a generic term. It could be any one of many grinds. You can measure the lift and duration with a dial indicator and a degree wheel. It does get a bit involved.

What would you recommend for my set up
See post #8 We discuss cams for 318's here a lot. Try "318 cam" in the search box and read through the posts. It's easy to over-cam a small cube engine. I like to use the 220° @ .050 as a guideline for 318 cams in street applications. Yes your better manifolds, dual exhaust , 4 barrel, and 3:55 gears are definitely a plus. You can go bigger if you use a higher stall converter. That will make up for the rougher idle at a higher rpm. That's where big duration cams have issues.

Just for comparison, I'm running a Jegs #200161 in my 273..441 lift, split duration, intake 218 @.050 exhaust 228 @.050.lobe sep 114*. Got a lumpy idle but smooth driving/cruzing with a great sound.I am running TTI shorty headers with full 2 1/2'' exhaust,DynoMax mufflers.Edelbrock Performer with a Edelbrock 600 AFB.Now the 273 is no powerhouse(2.76 gear) but runs well for what it's worth.I like it. Summit #K6901 along with the Comp SK20-210-2 are all pretty close for the 273/318/340/ 360 small block.

That's a big jump compared to the cam the op picked out. Lumpy idle? I bet it does especially in a 273 even with the 114°. Do you have a stick or auto?

There nothing wrong with your choice especially with 3.55 gears. But its hard to advise a cam cause theres so many little compromises, thats why when people ask which cam you'll 30 different cams ranging across the spectrum.

And everyones level of compromise is different.

What duration were you thinking 258?
I would ask you next about what you like (or would like) to do with this car.
- Do you like just cruising down the road to the car show?
- Do you wanna take it to the drag strip some, a lot, or never?
- Do you like to race around in the mountains?
- Auto trans?

Any chance you can post a video of your engine running?

Toolman, Its a automatic. 65VAL, I can try but it might take awhile.I'm not very good with cameras and computers.

Just wondering, Do you have a higher stall converter? If not, any issues with too high of idle speed and jerking or clunking in gear? (Like many do with a rough idle cam)

Toolman,None at all. It has the stock converter it was born with.I have the idle set at 800 in park. Very pleased with how well it runs.Future plans if I keep the car will be Borgeson power steering and A/C.My thought was this cam with A/C might not do well but I feel it will be fine.My E-58 360 at idle with the air on in a 79 300 idled really ruff.I blame it on the RV-2 Mopar compressor though.
As I said earlier it idles in gear fine and drives well.Very pleased with what is known as a cheap "Jegs" cam.My only complaint is with the Jegs and other Summit small block Mopar cams (had a few over the years)is lifter bleed down.Gets that clickety-clack at start when it sits for a few days.
