Converter too close to housing?

Got the converter installed but it is really close to the housing. Is this correct?

looks good to me, I had one rubbing after the lower trans bell hit a curb. It cracked it and pushed it up about 1/8 inch and I heard this whining sound. I was young and poor so I just hit it back down with a hammer....It may be hanging ever so slightly when its not supported by the flex plate.
 
simple...spin it back n forth...should hear the hub clack against the pump telling you that it is engaged...

I’m not sure I hear a clack but it can’t get it on any farther. It thumped down twice but I can still pull it off by pulling straight out.

Another dumb question but does this trans cross member go in with this “open” side facing the rear? Like the arrow would be pointing to the rear in this photo.

Yes, it takes two "thumps" for the converter to be fully seated... :thumbsup:
 
I do a lot of bench jobs for beginners to install and the double clack or thump method is a flirtation with disaster. I finally posted "Automatic Transmission Installation Instructions" on CL Inland Empire, Ca. In it I say to turn the converter so that one of the lugs is at the top. Then place a straightedge across the front and measure back to one of the side pads. Then place the straightedge across the back of the flex plate and measure to the block. The trans measurement should be at least 1/8' more than the motor measurement. Also to loosen the distributor cap and screw 2 bolts into the block that have had their heads cut off and ground to a point, or 2 screwed into the bottom trans holes that go thru the block from the front.
