Welcome to FABO. Wow what a sharp notchback. Like Rocco said, do a compression test and that usually tells if it is a HP engine or not. Tuning the carb can help as well as tuning the spark advance and distributor. What rear gear ratio do you have? Tall tires and a highway gear ratio can kill performance.[/QUO
I'm a 273 fan. I have the 235 horse in my 66 Dart. It runs good but is no tire burner. Thanks for the compliment. I can’t take credit for the car but I’m going to make it a better ride for sure. Right now it’s a 30 footer. Looks great from 30 feet! Get close and notice the issues...oh well. I love it regardless and I’m going to make it a runner. Thanks for the advice!
That’s a clean engine! Looks awesome!I'm a 273 fan. I have the 235 horse in my 66 Dart. It runs good but is no tire burner.

And that’s about what I have. Sounds great and looks good, it’s a summer evening ice cream runner. That puts things in good perspective mike. When you think about a 3000+ lb car making similar or less hp than a 4 cylinder car you can't have too crazy expectations but if you want a nice cruiser that's runs and sounds nice it fits the bill.
Perfect in my book. Many like more of a hot rod engine and put in something bigger. 318's are easy to come by but aren't a whole lot bigger than a 273 in stock form. You can stroke them to 390+ cubes for lots of performance. 340's are getting hard to come by but are a great engine. 360's are easier to find. They were used in many (most) trucks and in basically stock form can be a hand full. It all depends what you want. And that’s about what I have. I think I’ll keep it a cruiser for now. I’m one of the lucky sperm crowd in that I already have a ‘68 RoadRunner that is going to be given to me by my father when he is done driving it. It’s a pretty hopped up 383/727 package, and it screams. It’s a couple years away from sitting in my garage however. I can wait...Perfect in my book. I have been a die hard Chebie fan most of my life but have always loved Mopars. Could never get my arms around one, except the 72 Duster /6 w 3 speed manual that I bought at an auction for $300...it needed an ignition switch. Bought it, trailered it home, bought an ignition from the pull-n-save yard, and fired it right up! And then promptly tripled my money on it instead of keeping it....dumb! Oh well....I’ve found in my old(er) age I’m less brand specific and more appreciative of our old iron, regardless of what the badge says on the hood!
