Stop in for a cup of coffee

And the new fancy adhesive wheel weights really messed up all of us that used to collect wheel weights, melt em down, toss the clips and cast bullets out of them. The new ones suk.

Fishing weights.
I saw some soft weights, not lead, but what? A real pain to remove.

I cast my own bullets from old wheel weights. Here is the deal, MOST like 98 percent of all stick on wheel weights are ZINC and not lead these days. Even the clip on weights are going to Zinc these days. Well, it’s actually a zinc/tin pewter mixture.

Melting point though is barely higher (150-200 degrees) than that of lead but it will float on top of molten lead which makes them easy to sort out. I set my lead pot at about 600 degrees, zinc ones float and simply scoop off.

Later I’ll take those zinc ones and melt down at about 850 degrees for fishing weights then sell them.

Always wearing a respirator rated for lead smelting of course and doing it outside.

How do you take the adhesive off? Let it burn off? or hit it with a solvent?
It burns off. I actually dump saw dust into the lead, let it char and burn, helps to remove any impurities.

Ok guys got a question for ya, I have the Comp Cams EX275XL cam in the 440. 1.6 roller rockers. The thing is really running nice and strong especially when my foot is in it. At cruise speeds, say between 2000-2500 rpm it has some valve train noise. From what I’ve read it’s normal due to the closing ramp on the cam and nothing to be concerned with. It also seems to have a lite exhaust pop at cruise but not like a miss, nothing you can feel, just hear. Step on or lift the throttle slightly and it’s gone. More characteristics of the cam? Or possibly just a tuning issue. I still have to check the actual rotor phasing. Just not thrilled about drilling a hole in a $50 MSD cap. Other than the little noises this thing is running like a scalded ape!

So it is a new month and SLS is up on the calendar! That calendar simply makes me smile with every passing month. Mine hangs in my office and I get a lot of comments on it. I can then fill them in with some back story. But I digress. Our resident art guru has been at it again. He took a pix of my Cuda and created a shirt for me. I am being a test guinea pig for him. It turned out great!

That’s what i forgot!

Ya know Fred would look good in that !

I have been working on a new t-shirt design with a front view for the front and a back view for the back.

It seems to be working out pretty well. I am still working on the little details.
