So I've been working on trying to get this warlock that I've had my eye on for some time. The girl a welder very nice got in an accident with it and it's totaled. It wasn't her fault and she's came to terms with losing it and has already been paid for it by the insurance.. moving forward with it we've been doing a little bit of negotiating but it's boiling down to the last couple hundred dollars now and I'm not sure which way to go. As much as I like the truck I just don't want to get too deep into it. I'm not absolutely in love with it where I want to spend more money on it than it's worth.
Here's the lowdown. The truck supposedly had a rebuilt 360 put in it with a bunch of receipts but it looks like they didn't know how to seal the intake or something and there's oil all over it for the loan amount of miles should have on it. it's a granny 4-speed with I believe a Dana 60. The front clip is 100% toast the doors are even jammed a little bit. The floorboards have been re-welded but not with original floor boarding but sheet metal. The plastic part of the dash is completely trash but I do have one that's a nice condition. The seat is immaculate black and has been reupholstered with its original chrome but in a heavy black Tweed kind of deal. It's not an original look but it is very very nice look a nice seat. the bed bottom is gone with a piece of plywood laying in there. There is rust above the step on the passenger side of the bed. I think some kind of cheap aftermarket trailer tail lights and not The Originals. I don't even believe the rear bumper is completely straight. In my opinion it will need a complete donor truck for the frame front clip and possibly parts of the cab...

Oh the Dilemma...
And remember we're not in the Rust Belt here so things are about $1, 000 Less on average then on the East Coast...

well, price if everything.

well, if she want 200 bucks, buy it. If she wants 2000 walk.
yes unfortunately she has not only sentimental attachment which is hopefully starting to fade but she still has the receipts for the $1, 500 in motor work she just had done and the $550 she paid to have the seat reupholstered. there's no way I'm going to get that for 200 for less than scrap... Or not in the 2000 Range either..
That's where the Dilemma comes cuz we're kind of in the middle ground...

If I become forced to part it out I don't want to just be trying to get my money back...

I guess i'm completely lost at what you want or what your dilemma is..... :realcrazy:
Are you wanting to part it out for profit? Or are you wanting to fix it up then sell it? Or are you wanting to fix it up for yourself to own?

I see value in a decent seat, a used driveline and the stepside box. $1000 canadian loonies...
Rest is scrap.

If the cab is not rusted out at the drip rail.....

...and not mangled from the collision.

Still will always be a salvage title- NOT good for resale.

"Warlock" on tailgate looks like a hand done repaint.

Basically the Dilemma is all of the above! Lol do I want to part it out for profit? And could I? Is there enough left to make a profit? And a good profit not just get my money back and make $100 for all my work. Should I hold onto it until I can find a donor and resell it? Hard sell with a totaled title. Especially for any kind of good money. Or do I fix it up and keep it I'm driving around as my own Warlock? Do IIhop it up and drag racer it LOL...

I was kind of looking at the value of the parts myself and seen value in the 360 it still has the two barrel. I seen value in the seat and also the bed what's left of it LOL and possibly a little bit for the D60. But again all the work.,.
I was more thinking of getting rid of the front clip and pulling the motor and resealing it. hoping Beyond hope I could maybe do something with straightening the frame but that is a pipe dream I'm sure. And just holding out for a donor truck. There's one about three and a half hours away on Craigslist right now but again that's a bird in the bush also.

let it sit. Eventually, she'll have to make a decision. Of course, you risk the chance of someone else seeing it and making an offer, or her listing it on CL. My advice is this: On this kind of deal, you have to buy it so that you feel good about it. Kindly offer that price and leave the ball in her court.
  • But you never know, they might have done that 360 up right, and it might be a nice upgrade in performance for you Duster.... :poke:

I've already let it set since last September and have been patient about a slow negotiation.

I would have to say it depends on your needs, so you have to decide what you're going to do with it if you buy it. You need to get her to let go of the sentimental thing, for her it is unfortunately, time to move on. It doesn't seem like it will be a profitable part out vehicle, unless you get it for under $400.. time is money and like you said, all that work to make $100.. taking that truck apart on a good day is good nut to bust, but in that condition it's going to be next level fun.
Does it still run, drive and stop?

I'm confused. If the insurance company totaled it and paid her for it, it's not her's anymore. It belongs to the insurance company. How can she sell it? That's how it works. I'd get a LOT more information before I laid any money down.

Then pay the extra couple of hundred, it's obvious you can't get it off your mind so she wins. Hopefully you win too :)

most insurance companies (including mine) allow you a buy back option. Usually it's a mere couple hundred bucks off the "totaled price" to keep it

3500 and we take it... or 3175 and you keep the truck

LOL I had to confirm and laugh about the confused LOL
Anyways it's just like 318 has valves that will fly said. What they do is make you an offer or tell you what they'll pay you back for it and then they call the wrecking yard right there in front of you and the wrecking yard says will give you 255 bucks for it or something like that and you can say knock that off of what you're giving me for the truck and keep it. but at that point you have 30 days to take the paperwork down to DMV so they can reissue a totaled title..

As far as needs LOL I need it like I need a hole in the head! LOL yeah it should still run and drive it's just a fender is munched up into the front tire and the fan shroud is dangling in there against the fan. I don't think it would drive straight by any means cuz I can visually see the frame rails are bent upfront or pushed over at the veryI don't. Also the radiator is shot. Dammit! I just sold a radiator for that truck for 80 bucks.,. and that's another thing I keep selling all the parts I would potentially need the hood the fenders blah blah blah..

Again now that it's totaled she needs a specific buyer for that truck. Also she's already won her insurance money back plus it was the other person's fault and I'm sure she had injuries...
She more needs to get this thing off for driveway...

also we're at about $350 standoff here so it's just a little too cantered to her side...
when it comes down to it I'll just let her sit on it a little longer and ask again in another month or two...

have you tried showing her cash money?

have you tried showing her cash money?
No we had a very long lengthy conversation a couple weeks ago and she knows I have the money when I say it I don't have to flash it in front of her face. and I don't think either one of us want that kind of deal. I have offered her first right of refusal if I try to sell it again and on this last offer I offered her all the scrap metal that comes off of it basically the front clip and if the frame ends up getting changed out which I'm sure it will. She likes extra metal around for her welding projects and so forth and I believe she has some way of forging it as well.
